February 6, 201213 yr Warren is being represented in this year's Super Bowl.............kind of corny, but I like it: One more Ohio-Giants connection. Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn intercepted a Brady pass in the 4th quarter. Chase Blackburn was born in Marysville, Ohio - played high school football at Marysville and played college football at the University of Akron. Super Bowl XLVI(2012) Chase Blackburn Intercepts Tom Brady!
February 6, 201213 yr In hindsight (yes, I know it's 20/20), I am having some difficulty justifying the idea of INTENTIONALLY giving up the lead in a Super Bowl with one minute left. I get it to a certain extent..... BB thought the chances of the Giants muffing it up were worse than the chances of Brady leading a TD drive in with 50 some second left on the clock. Regular season, it makes more sense (the Browns seemingly tried to do it in the first game against Cincy with the final TD scored by Benson so Lewis couldn't simply run out the clock), but this is the Super Bowl. You're leading. I think at that point, you simply have to take your chances that the Giants will either fumble the snap or the kicker will F up the chip shot. Tough call either way.

ESPN: Colts release Peyton Manning CBS: Peyton Manning says emotional goodbye to Colts I am praying and hoping that P.Manning goes to the redskins :-D Doubt it. I would be surprised if he went to a team in the same Conference as Eli, let alone a team within the same Division. My best guesses right now are Miami and Tennessee.
March 12, 201213 yr Washington traded away those picks (RGIII) everyone thinking they'd go wild in free agency; little did we all know they were about to be penalized $36MM in salary cap (over two years). So no premium picks and half as much money (at least) for free agents over the next few years. League strips Cowboys, Redskins of millions in cap space Posted by Mike Florio on March 12, 2012, 3:28 PM EDT ... How many millions? Schefter reports that the Cowboys will lose more than $10 million — and that the Redskins will lose $36 million. (And now we know why the Redskins got the Griffin deal done last week; the Rams likely would have wanted even more for the second overall pick now.) The teams can divide the cap losses between 2012 and 2013 in any portion they want. As of Sunday, the Redskins more than $30 million in cap space in 2012. The Cowboys had less than $5 million. ... http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/12/league-strips-cowboys-redskins-of-millions-in-cap-space/
March 13, 201213 yr ^ I can't say that I completely understand why they're being penalized. Was there a specific rule that they violated?

If they did that evenly they'd still have $3 million more than what the Browns currently have for FAs. Also, both teams have indicated they're going to ignore the penalties and fight it.
March 19, 201213 yr Guess Tebow's power of prayer isn't so powerful after all! "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 19, 201213 yr Count me as one who thinks he will never play a snap in the regular season. That first hit he takes in the preseason will cause him to reevaluate and the pressure will mount from his family. If you have a fused neck, your football days are about over. Just ask Chris Speilman.
March 20, 201213 yr As a Browns fan, of course I hate the Steelers. But I was saddened to hear that Hines Ward retired. Among all NFL players, he was a class act. That's especially rare among wide receivers, many of whom are headcases. He wasn't flashy, which may keep him off the first ballot to the hall of fame. But I think he'll get in sooner rather than later. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 20, 201213 yr Class act? He was consistently voted by his fellow professionals as being amongst the dirtiest, if not the dirtiest, player in the league. Great player, but I don't know if I would describe him as a class act.
March 20, 201213 yr I never saw him as dirty. Hard-nosed? Yes. Hard-worker? Yes. I think he earned all the catches and yards he got. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 21, 201213 yr Head case no but a dirty player yes. He hurt a lot of players on cheap shots and Hts is right, he was always at the top of the player's list of the dirtiest players in the league.
March 21, 201213 yr Head case no but a dirty player yes. He hurt a lot of players on cheap shots and Hts is right, he was always at the top of the player's list of the dirtiest players in the league. He was always the master of the cheap shot. Also, when one of his Steelers teammates had a party and invited some Browns players, he snitched on Gerard Warren having a gun and O.J. Santiago having pot. The media loved him, the players around the league do not.
March 21, 201213 yr OK, f#ck it. Dude's an assh*le. Bet they loved seeing him cry today at his retirement announcement. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

March 21, 201213 yr Wow, punishment for coaches/personnel for the Saints Bounty-gate came out. Adam Schefter reports via twitter that the punishments are as follows: Saints head coach Sean Payton is suspended for a year effective April 1st, 2012 Saints lose two second-round draft choices 2012, and 2013 and are fined $500,000 Former Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (now with Rams) is suspended indefinitely Saints executive Mickey Loomis suspended eight games and fined $500,000 Saints assistant coach Joe Vitt suspended six games and fined $100,000
March 21, 201213 yr Boy...if it was a media circus with Tebow when he was in Denver can you imagine what it is going to be like in NYC? He won't be able to fart without it being all over the internet.

March 21, 201213 yr So NFL players hate Hines Ward. I was aware of his top spot at dirtiest player.... but his retirement was still bittersweet to me. I couldn't stand watching him smile while they trounced the Browns, but he really did make the games fun in a bad-guy kind of way. It's just the same way that I LOVE to see Rothlisburger get sacked.... but I won't deny that he is a talented QB.
March 22, 201213 yr No players? Why???? I heard player fines/suspensions are forthcoming. If anyone placed bets on the Saints winning the Super Bowl in 2012, I wonder if they can get refunds? :-P "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
March 22, 201213 yr ^ Interesting, waitingfornextyear.com is speculating that Scott Fujita may get off relatively easily since the NFL actions seems to be focusing on the 2010 season continuation and cover up of the bounty program after the league told them to cease. Fujita was on the Browns in 2010.

May 2, 201213 yr Junior Seau was found dead of an apparent gunshot wound by suicide ShUT Up! OMG He made me want to marry a Samoan! If it's suicide, and you all know how I feel about suicide, what a shame.
May 2, 201213 yr It has been confirmed...obviously a very sad situation http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/junior-seau-dead-suicide-nfl-linebacker/story?id=16263047 Former longtime NFL linebacker Junior Seau committed suicide today at his Oceanside, Calif., home. San Diego Chargers Chaplain Shawn Mitchell told ABCNews.com that Seau died of a "self inflicted gunshot wound to the chest this morning." Seau was 43. The Chargers released a statement to ABC News' San Diego affiliate: "Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now. We ask everyone to stop what they're doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family."
May 2, 201213 yr This is only going throw fuel on the debate over concussions / head trauma and the long terms effects such as depression.
May 3, 201213 yr So many of these players could not reveal a weakness in their football careers, and yet carry that into their post-football careers. Junior Seau had his own doctors because he never wanted anyone to see him in pain. He wanted to put on a larger-than-life persona (ultimately a phony one in this case) that most players cannot sustain after their football career. Seau tried to keep his career going -- he did it longer than most, lasting 20 years. He survived post-football less than three years. I just saw a report that within two years of retirement, 78 percent of NFL players are bankrupt or are in severe financial distress. Many divorce and face depression, yet they don't feel they can ask for help. They seem to think it's not macho or otherwise shows "weakness" to ask for help. And killing yourself while leaving your family and friends to pick up the pieces of the lives you shattered is macho?? Many of us have considered suicide when we're in deep trouble, but we don't go through with it because we know how much it will hurt others. Yet those who do commit suicide prove only that they cared more about themselves than they did about anyone else. It's the ultimate act of selfishness. May 3, 201213 yr Any poor soul who would go to these lengths is obviously suffering enough that they can't cope. They aren't thinking about others because they are sick.
May 4, 201213 yr Any poor soul who would go to these lengths is obviously suffering enough that they can't cope. They aren't thinking about others because they are sick. BINGO! No more calls, we have an answer!
May 4, 201213 yr Combine that with machoism (and his apparent need to hide "weakness") and it seems this guy didn't have a chance. And so we move on. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
May 4, 201213 yr Combine that with machoism (and his apparent need to hide "weakness") and it seems this guy didn't have a chance. And so we move on. See this is where we're going to disagree. I dont think it fair to lump all players into that category. Especially someone who is emotionally unstable. I dont know if you've ever wanted to kill yourself, but you don't think about them, you only think about showing them why they were wrong to treat you X way. All you're thinking about is "hurting" those you've felt have done you wrong and showing them how sorry they will be that you're gone.
May 4, 201213 yr Any poor soul who would go to these lengths is obviously suffering enough that they can't cope. They aren't thinking about others because they are sick. Absolutely right Dan (and MTS). Depression is like being in a tunnel where the light ahead gets smaller and smaller, even though you're trying to move towards it faster. And then the walls start closing in around you. My assumption is that this is depression related, and nobody should be surprised if brain damage is an underlying factor. I'm in San Diego right now. It's surreal. People are stunned. Junior Seau is an icon of this community and there are countless stories of his generosity going around; he gave back to the community.
May 17, 201213 yr This definitely isn't news, but it's news to me. I might be the only Ohioan not to know this: The predecessor to the NFL was the Ohio League, made entirely of teams from Ohio. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_League
