That is one of the few hotels I did not want to try out downtown because I read the reviews through the Marriot Bonvoy app and they were awful for that hotel.

August 6, 20213 yr I spend a lot of time in Grand Rapids, and I always wish the entrances to the Renaissance could be treated more like the Amway Grand Plaza: the lights, the plants, outdoor patios etc. would go such a long way to spruce things up and make this side of Public Square more appealing. They've got to do something with that awful box of a ballroom addition and parking garage.

It was also a secret - private hallway and stairs connecting the Greenbrier Suites to the hotel to allow the V.S. brothers another private exit and entrance to the Greenbrier Suites. But during one of the many hotel renovations the connection was sealed many years ago.

I am sure it took a while to negotiate, especially if it involves two properties. Are all three floors contiguous or scattered around making up three floors. That might be another sign of a long negotiation. They might have had plans for the hotel even before leasing began.

September 14, 20213 yr That photo was indeed the bar area. Look how small the tables are. I loved that restaurant and really hope a new restaurant opens up in that space as planned. There's no other venue in CLE like it. Even the bar at the top of the Hilton is just that--a bar, though with some things to nibble on.
