September 5, 20195 yr ^ from the looks of the render it sure looks like it would have something like that. and yeah it is very modern/brooklyn looking. a lot of people prefer these smaller boutique type hotels to other options, so i am sure it would do great. perfect moniker for it too!

And I'm told that the property's sale should close next week. Hopefully this will bring some life to a pretty dead street (except during evening sporting events). Here's some photos I took of this Art Deco beauty yesterday... What ever happened to the Ohio Bell Building on Huron. It was supposed to file in July and become a Curio Collection Hotel.

March 19, 20205 yr Except for the Hilton Convention Center and a few others, Marriott (and Sheraton subs) will pretty much own the downtown hotel market. While the Ritz-Carlton is impressive, the addition of a JW Marriott will take the Cleveland hotel market to a whole different level. Edited March 19, 20205 yr by Frmr CLEder

March 19, 20205 yr For those w/out a subscription, the Walton family might be turning the Baker Building into a 21c Museum hotel. Baker Building's buyer may be a big leaguer A company named 1900 East 6th LLC that was formed in Ohio on March 13 may hold an intriguing connection to the mystery buyer and potential reuse of the Baker Building, which occupies that address in downtown Cleveland. The same name was used on Jan. 27 to buy the 1919 vintage structure on resurgent East Sixth Street for $1.8 million from the prior owner, real estate investor and educator J. Scott Scheele, who held it through the Diamond Investment Group Building LLC. That's the word according to the deed in Cuyahoga County records. https://www.crainscleveland.com/real-estate/baker-buildings-buyer-may-be-big-leaguer
March 21, 20205 yr More...... FRIDAY, MARCH 20, 2020 Baker Building may become boutique hotel -- eventually The 11-story Baker Building at 1900 E. 6th St. in downtown Cleveland enjoys a brighter future now that it's in the hands of a deep-pocketed firm. But that future may not be imminent. However, the delay has nothing to do with the global pandemic, according to a source familiar with the project. Instead, the Walton Enterprises of Walmart fame which bought the Class C office building usually acquires and sits on older, sometimes distressed buildings before renovating them, said the source who was not authorized to speak publicly on the project. March 24, 20205 yr Something good is on ths horizon; it just won't be a hotel. It's a beautiful building. My mom used to work there for the State of Ohio.
June 4, 20205 yr Regarding the Baker Building ^ Someone on Twitter reported that Sapporo Sushi is being forced to close at some point- I assume due to the renovation of this building, and I assume the other businesses (Daves, Souper Market, Moriartys) will face the same dillemna. With SO MANY empty storefronts downtown it would be such a shame to lose these businesses... It would be nice if they could fill up the retail around the parking garage at 800 Superior (Next to Phoenix Coffee)
June 10, 20205 yr Any update on Hulett Hotel - W25th St.? Their facebook page still says "Opening 2020". Remember: It's the Year of the Snake
June 10, 20205 yr ^They have no website despite having "huletthotel.com" on the picture above. And the facebook last post was in 2018. I hope it does happen, though it doesn't look like a covid-related delay as its been radio silence since 2018.

Sounds like we shouldn’t expect Midtown’s Dream Hotel to be open until 2024, if it goes forward. Now we’re really starting to see the real longer term effects of Covid kicking in - where they hit hardest - the hospitality industry and the entertainment world. The Dream Hotel project possibly delayed(?) and any act 2 for the Lumen (as per @KJP’s post over the weekend) probably years away as PHS struggles to recover from this extended shutdown. Perhaps the arrival of a vaccine might start to turn things around, but that’s above my pay grade.
September 30, 20204 yr TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2020 Dream Hotel development delayed more than a year Given the current state of the pandemic-ravaged hospitality industry, it probably shouldn't come as a surprise that the proposed 19-story Dream Hotel next to the Masonic Temple in Cleveland's Midtown has been delayed. According to the construction database The Dodge Reports, the delay will be more than one year. The site reported that design work on the hotel will be on hold until Summer 2021. That means the earliest construction could start would be Summer 2022, it said. Last spring, officials at New York-based Dream Hotels hoped to start construction in early 2021. The hospitality market and financing for new projects is starting to loosen across the country, and in Cleveland there are many hotels in the planning stages. It’s about creating a destination, not just having another Hampton inn. This should be moved to the hotel thread as to not derail the SHW conversation. Let's discuss here. And he's right -- there are three hotel developments in/near downtown that I'm aware of that are alive and kicking. February 26, 20214 yr I’ve always thought the Ohio Bell Building would be an amazing hotel conversion if done right - I don’t know if it would be a particularly difficult building to convert. Probably would be too large not to be a mixed usage project. I’d love to hear news on that front in the near future. .
