Sort of an off the wall question, when someone as big as drake comes into town, where do these top talents stay?

Typically the Ritz since technically it's Cleveland's only 5 star hotel.  For a while it was pretty run-through and I know some artists would stay at the 9 or Intercontinental.   The the updated Ritz is really the best game in town.

Correct, although our Ritz is 4 star. I do not believe we have a true 5 star hotel downtown.

The really big artists have not been staying in hotels at all in many cases, such as the Beyonces and Taylor Swifts of the world. The industry trend has been using luxury rental homes (Airbnb Style) instead of public hotels the rental home offers more space, more privacy and better accommodations (remember these artists have chefs and big teams that cater to them). Also I’ve seen many music stars will fly in the morning of and fly out after the show and not stay overnight in the concert city at all. There was a time when only billionaires really had access to private jets now even mid level music stars have access to them so it’s really had an impact on concert logistics.

Did they lose a star?  At one point they used to be....I guess it depends on who you ask.   But yes, they are as close as it comes--I believe still have 24 hour room service, maids etc.

I've actually seen much less use of the rental services unless an artist is long-term in LA etc where very exclusive rentals are available.   AirBnB and similar have too many privacy concerns as owners have cameras installed, etc.

And true, often times an artist will hub out of a city and stay in the same hotel for weeks on end.   Chicago is a perfect spot to tour the entire middle of the country and go home every night to the Peninsula or Four Seasons...

When using these homes they tend to have security teams do sweeps for cameras and other devices similar to what we see for politicians, hotel rooms get this same treatment as well, again this is most prevalent for the very biggest global stars. As mentioned they really like private home setups when they have a traveling private chef, wardrobe fittings etc. there are some Luxury hotel locations that can handle such requests but Four Seasons, Ritz and other chain brands are very much not the same city to city. Last summer I know of a very big artist who stayed in a friend of a friend’s luxury home rather than a hotel. It’s also cheaper and more secure than hotels in my opinion , most big artist have to rent out an entire floor of a hotel to make it work.

Wow, those are big numbers I would have never thought.

I recall going into Corner Alley just to hang out and grab a brew, bartender warned me of 'ASG' prices. Not quite NYC or LA but appreciated the warning...

PXL_20220218_041725625

Imagine getting a $42 growler of Miller Lite lol

It was certainly an experience (hearing someone explain you got to choose a flight at a brewery to the LA crowd's amazement, hearing folks talk about how 'cheap' it was, and so on was interesting), but that's for another discussion lol

Long story short, had more places gouged, it probably would've been even higher.

I’m not sure who makes that decision but I was always under the impression it was a 4 star.

I’ve done a good amount of staycations in Cleveland recently and I’d agree Ritz is the closest thing we have. I have to admit it doesn’t compare well to other Ritzs. Or any other 5 star hotel I’ve stayed at :(

Star ratings are somewhat arbitrary and assigned by whoever is publishing the rating.

I would agree with you that if it is a 5 star, it's a very low 5 star and probably a high 4 and many other websites.

It's 5 on Expedia.

Yupp and some sites the “Star” rating system is actually more so based on price point/brand not actual quality of the hotel service, facilities etc.

I think that the "star" ratings are a generic term based on whoever chooses to rate them. However, when people talk about Cleveland's only 5 star, I think they may be thinking about AAA's 5 Diamond rating. I believe this is sort of the gold standard in hotel rankings and people often confuse it with the star ratings. I believe AAA exclusively uses the diamond ranking system.

https://www.clevescene.com/news/three-cleveland-hotels-receive-aaas-4-diamond-rating-41505482

This link is a year old, but it mentions only The 9, Ritz, and Inter-Continental are 4 diamond. No Ohio hotel made 5 diamond. Although I recall a few years back the Walden Inn did reach 5 diamond.

I would have to agree that the 9 (Metropolitan) and the Ritz are the two nicest hotels in downtown.

"Inn Walden"- my cousin had his wedding there, and since I was in the party, I got put up for the evening in a suite of my own with a fireplace and a jacuzzi.  It was far larger than any apartment I've ever lived in and easily the nicest place I've ever spent a night of my life.

New Waterloo expands with Cleveland adaptive reuse hotel

By Esther HertzfeldFeb 27, 2024 9:23am

New Waterloo, an independent hotel management company, is expanding into new markets with the Fidelity Hotel, an adaptive reuse project located in the historic 103-year-old Baker Building in downtown Cleveland. The project is in collaboration with NuovoRE, a socially and environmentally conscious real estate firm based in Denver. Fidelity Hotel will have 97 guestrooms and suites, each with tailored amenities and custom-designed furniture. The property will have a full-service restaurant, bar, event and meeting spaces, and a private dining room.

"As for replicating the Hotel Cleveland's original signage—an electrical, stick-built one overlooking Public Square—McGee and Romance seemed slightly hesitant to confirm. Designs are still be finalized, they said. We're still working out the costs, they said."

Here's a better chestnut: You can choose how best to wait. But wait you will.

Are we allowed to know a height range for hotel/residential development. Skyline changing to me sounds >600ft.

you know, leaving sw phase 2 out of it, if they would just open up to mixed use, they could do hotel + long term stay + condos and that would bump the height up. it would make the building hella more attractive. just sayin. anyhoo, thats the dream.

The former nuCLEus site would be a great location for a skyline changing hotel/residential development.

There would be a decent chance it could be up to 600 feet as a sizable chunk of downtown falls within that height limit

Just because they can doesn't mean they will.

Seems like they could expand the 900' zone a bit.

Was considering booking a hotel room downtown on June 15th for The Rolling Stones concert.  Surprised to see everything in the Marriott app is sold out that night.  Does that happen often with major events?  I didn’t check other brands due to loyalty status, but I guess it speaks to always having room for one more hotel in the development pipeline.

Hotel Cleveland will be re-opening next month which will add nearly 500 rooms downtown. And the Fidelity Hotel in the Baker Building should be ready in the fall, although it will only be about 100 rooms. Not sure what happened with Dream Hotel. Apparently it was just a pipe dream.

If your loyalty status is high enough, contact the hotel directly. They do hold back rooms for availability in situations like this

This is a public art piece put to planning commission maybe the previous or twice-previous meeting? I don't believe they are related. I'm kinda surprised they are this far along!

Great renovation. I hope they really elevate the property and maintain it. Though I have this feeling that we aren’t going to get the sign on the roof… Hope I’m wrong 🙄
