There are many interesting little facts about our cities.  I am going to post a few questions about Cleveland that I find to have interesting answers.  Here is one to start things off:

How did the Gund family make a lot of its money?

Any other interesting facts about other cities in Ohio??

I know that there are 88 counties in Ohio b/c the person who drew the county lines was a pianist and got the number from the number of keys on a piano.

Cincinnati was not only home to the first professional baseball team. What other first professional organization can Cincy claim?

Hint: Now a victim of ((Cleveland's football team) - s + outs).

The Gunds used to have a large brewery on Lakeside Ave.  It was demolished to build the new FBI office-fortress.

Lake county was legaly too small to be considered a county by the state of ohio. To remedy this its borders were extended to the US/Canada border.

This sounds pretty dubious, especially given that all the counties weren't established at the same time.  But I may be surprised...

First professional fire department

X,

But, what did they invent?  It does have something to do with brewing.

Barley?

They invented the process for decaffeinating coffee.

The Gunds were beer and coffee brewers?  Renaissance men, they are!

Here.  For all you football fans.

Paul Brown wasn't originally from Massillon?  What town, then?

no

^Is that Flying Pizza I see in your avatar, Summit Street?  Mmm, them's good eatin'...

Paul Brown was born in the bustling metropolis of Norwalk, OH.

The same reason why people drink non-alcoholic beer, I suppose...

"They invented the process for decaffeinating coffee."

Why the f#ck would anyone want to do such a horrific thing???  :whip:

So they don't have to spend all day in the bathroom.

They invented the process for decaffeinating coffee.

niner on that one, once prohibition started, the gunds bought the company that invented decaffinated coffee, Kaffee Hag.

How many times does US 40 cross I-70?

Kaffee Hag was owned by Clevelanders?  Woah!

geez, I grew up in Lake County and didn't know this. As for trivia, Don Shula went to my high school (among other famous graduates...okay, come to think of it, he was probably the only one...oh, and some children's book author whose name I can never remember)

Trivia question.  What town is this?

ELO1898WestEnd.jpg

Clue: Jeff Lynne

Sorry, I was being too obscure.  I meant to say: what town do locals call "ELO"?

East Liverpool

Yes.  I was on some blog yesterday and they kept referring to ELO, and it took me a while to figure it out.  Seemed interesting at the time.

I have no clue who Jeff Lynne is but it was obviously an Ohio River town.

Jeff Lynne was in Electric Light Orchestra and the Traveling Wilburys
