Posted October 8, 201113 yr Part VI – South Taylor Road & Severance Circle This subpart takes us to the south eastern segment of Cleveland Heights, which borders University Heights (with whom CH shares a school district). Part VI(a) – South Taylor Road A welcome addition to the City, right at the Cedar-Taylor intersection 1. 2. 3. 4. I hear there are some real slumlords on this little strip ;) 5. 6. Some people I know who like Indian food, speak highly of this place 7. 8. 9. Blight from across the street in University Hts…. 10. 11. And some from CH itself 12. Nice example of mixed use… at least in design 13. 14. 15. 16. 17. 18. 19. 20. 21. 22. There is a very large jewish orthodox community along Taylor Road and the residential neighborhood adjoining from the east 23. 24. 25. 26. This one is up for sale and in dire need of some maintenance 27. 28. 29. 30. 31. 32. 33. 34. 35. 36. 37. 38. 39. 40. The other side of Taylor to the west has quite of few up-down duplexes 41. 42. Part VI(b) – Severance Circle Severance is a circular drive at the corner of Taylor and Mayfield roads. It is home to City Hall, some new(er) residential, offices, and the big box stores so many CH residents fought to keep out. There used to be a mall in the center of the circle, so I suppose it was no huge loss even though I just can’t imagine how Walmart landed in CH out of all places First…. some world crap signage 43. 44. 45. 46. 47. This building was a recent conversion to residential 48. 49. Something that looks like it belongs along the I-271 corridor 50. 51. A Zaremba project that has been slowly moving along for about 10 years. It’s a neighborhood isolated within a neighborhood isolated from the rest of the city. ??? 52. Across Mayfield is the new Bluestone Community, which is being built where the JCC once stood. The term Bluestone comes from the Village of Bluestone, a quarry community which first drew people to the area. The rock that was mined became very popular in concrete mixes… iirc. It has a condo building out on Mayfield (the sales center pictured here has been removed to make room for the townhomes being built and pictured below) 53. Cluster homes in the rear 54. 55. And the ‘can’t build em fast enough’ ‘Chicago Style Townhomes’. They (Rysar) have already sold most of what is under construction now and plan a total of 16 units in groupings of 3 or 4 56. 57. 58. 59. Parking in the rear, which won’t be visible from the street once the “U” (the bottom of which will face Mayfield) is completed with all 16 units. 60. Bluestone is just to the west of Lutheran East, a private co-ed high school obviously affiliated with the Lutheran Church 61.

October 8, 201113 yr Great Tudor buildings! I went to Cain Park for the first time over the summer (to the very good arts fest) and never realized how wonderful it was. Some of the areas around it have become a bit rough around the edges. I didnt see a picture of the Rockefeller building which has a new decent restaurant in it. We tried to go there, but it wasnt open. Beautiful building as well, but definately in need of some attention and looking quite shabby. Also, that Japanese restaurant on Lee had recently closed. :-(
October 8, 201113 yr I remember when severance was the "it" mall in Cleveland. Long live Halle's .... in my head. :'( agreed, this was regarded as a fancy-schmancy mall by people in Lake County; then again you know how low class people are there! I won't disagree! HA!
October 8, 201113 yr When I lived in Highland Heights in the 1970s, we also went to Severance Mall for the high-class stuff. Otherwise we went to Richmond Mall which I could reach on my bike. I first saw Star Wars at Severance, and our family doctor was at one of the medical office buildings along Severance's ring road. I first saw Star Wars at Severance, and our family doctor was at one of the medical office buildings along Severance's ring road. Richmond Mall? You poor thing you!
October 9, 201113 yr Richmond Mall? You poor thing you! I doubt even you would have noticed the difference between the 1970s offerings of Severance vs. Richmond malls as a 12-year-old! My favorite stores were Spencers and the T-shirt kiosk where I could get the latest Farah Fawcett T or something with tricked-out hot rods! My favorite stores were Spencers and the T-shirt kiosk where I could get the latest Farah Fawcett T or something with tricked-out hot rods! I'm gay and I've been a power shopper since the 6th grade. I would have noticed! :P Which is why we didn't shop there. I dont think I've been to Richmond mall more than a handful of times in my entire life. I'm sure it was for the movie there or the one across the street.
