In 2009 I moved to Chicago.  Every year I plan to move out of downtown and into one of the neighborhoods but I can never seem to do it.  Signed the lease again a couple months ago.  However, my office will be moving down the street to bigger space, so some new vantage points are to come this year.

Great place for a happy hour drink, the bar with the best view is at the Hancock building.

I never wake up early enough for sunrises, but if I stay up all night I can.  Rooftop morning coffee's are done for the season

Wow, great photos! I love Chicago. And the Hancock Buildings observation deck has to be one of the best in the world. Its view at night is amazing. Thanks for posting!

What an awesome thread. You have no idea how much I would love to live the way you do.

Gorgeous photographs.

One of the best photo threads that I've seen on UO but I'm a big sucker for the nighttime photos =p

Great pics.  One of my favorite store and favorite train crossing.

Wow , that is one hell of a city.  I can't wait to visit it in 2015.

Great set!!

I met a couchsurfer in my apartment elevator that was doing a cross country Amtrak trip to various cities.  I wish I could do something like that.  He was basically taking the trip before he started his new job, and was doing it on the cheap.  Free places to stay, and most of the places he was provided a meal as well.

If anyone is ever looking for a real cheap place to stay in Chicago, the HostelingInternational place on Congress is very nice.  Only a few people per room (very big rooms) and each rooms has its own private bathroom.  I stayed there once before I moved here and it was $22.

For cheap nice hotels the Allerton always has specials, but the catch is their parking is extremely expensive.  But taking a train or bus makes it not an issue

Sutton Place is a luxury hotel that will occasionally run steep discount offers when rooms a reserved within a particular time frame and non-refundable.  It's definitely worth it, and all the rooms have a view.

Great pics.  One of my favorite store and favorite train crossing.

When the store was under construction, I don't think anyone expected that it would come out looking so good.  The grand stair and decorate glass windows are stunning.

I've heard rumors the Barney's Co-op in Lincoln Park is moving to State Street and I'm going to guess or suggest, the old Loehmanns space.  Either that or B37

Thanks for the great comments everyone.  I really like Chicago, but I do miss Michigan from time to time.  My company has allowed me to split some time once and awhile between our Detroit and Chicago offices so that I can go back home and see family and friends.

That sounds like fun.  You should add a day in Milwaukee.  The Hiawatha makes is easy to do without buying another hotel room.  I would also add a day to Minneapolis.  There's a LOT to see and you should make a trip over to St Paul and explore Summit Ave.

Regardless, it sounds like a fantastic trip.  Are you planning on riding public transit in each city too?  MSP will have the Central Corridor Light Rail open by then.

Yeah Milwaukee is necessary.  In my opinion it has the best warehouse district in the midwest.

---that photo tour coming soon.

be careful -- they say after seven years you will only leave in a box!

Big city living with big city views: great stuff. I was in that bar actually, no servers came to attend to us so we took pics, looked at all of the spiders and their many webs on the windows, and left for Frontera Grill.

Chicago has a major spider problem and I don't know what's up with it.  They are sizeable and build these huge complex webs in all the windows.  All my windows usually have webs in the summer.  They never come inside, so it's fine to open the windows, but at least the pest problem here is 0 since they are basically the building's first line of defense against other insects.

Possibly all the floodlighting. Lights attract insects, and spiders come for the easy buffet. I learned not to set my Coleman lantern on the ground when camping because big spiders stake out the area around it to wait for dinner.

Absolutely stunning pics!

Great views of a very solid waterfront downtown.
