Posted November 14, 201113 yr Hey guys! I'm back! Sorry I haven't been around for a while, I've been keeping busy with work and everything! So, I thought what better way to return than to present my early autumn tour of Buffalo, New York, focusing on the city's architecture and downtown! I came down for a Foo Fighters concert at the First Niagara Center, I even brought a friend with me for this as he's a Foo Fighters fan and wanted to tour City Hall as well! Without further ado, my early Autumn 2011 phototour of Buffalo... Started out at the waterfront the Saturday evening, these pics taken on my BlackBerry... Buffalo skyline from the waterfront observation tower... Buffalo waterfront residences... Found this a bit humorous... from inside the observation tower... WTH is a bedroom doing in the middle of the Erie Canal? Sunday morning, me and my friend took a guided tour of downtown Buffalo, courtesy of Buffalo Tours This building front, the Genesee Building, was taken in the Hyatt Regency, where the Hyatt Regency is, was once a street that went straight through to Niagara Square... Unique because this was its own building and an atrium was added to the building in the 70s and where the atrium is used to be Genesee Street. Looking up at the Genesee Building, the Hyatt Regency... Looking up at Ellicott Square... Inside Ellicott Square... This is the northeast corner of Ellicott Square, it was rumoured that back in 1896, in this location, was where the first permanent movie theater in the world was built... Front of Ellicott Square... Former office building where Grover Cleveland, former President of the United States who was from Buffalo, practised Law. Looking up at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral Inside That building is the Dun Building, built in 1894, considered to be one of the first skyscrapers ever built in the world. Louis Sullivan's Terra Cotta masterpiece, the Guaranty Building. Inside the Guaranty Building... Edward A. Rath City County Building... Old City Hall and Erie County Building... This former church was the only building that remained after the British burned Buffalo in the War of 1812. City Hall and Courthouse... November 14, 201113 yr Great stuff! "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 14, 201113 yr A lot to admire here, Jaybird! A historical, handsome city inside and out. Especially liked your many panoramic shots; I learned a great deal about the city's layout (and that water, water, water is everywhere!) Thanks.
November 14, 201113 yr Beautiful set, well-photographed in fortunate weather and nicely documented. City Hall is more lavishly decorated that I had imagined. The atrium of Ellicott Square reminded me a lot of the atrium of the Santa Fe Building in Chicago, although Ellicott Square is more opulent than the Santa Fe Building. I did a little Googling; Ellicott Square was designed by Daniel Burnham, and the Santa Fe Building was designed by Burnham associate Frederick Dinkelberg. For many years, Burham & Company's offices were on the 14th floor of the Santa Fe Building.
