What kind of negative comments? If I recall correctly, National Terminals is a mixed-income building.

I have about 750 SF one bedroom apartment and pay $750 a month.  That includes parking.  I am in a renovated school building in Over the Rhine, a neighborhood just north of downtown.  I walk to our office downtown in less than 10 minutes.

I could be at rent around the $800 range but many places I've seen in downtown Cleveland then have additional parking fees as high as another $135.  (Crittenden Court has the lowest parking prices I've seen at less than $100.)

Thanks!

It's gonna be hard to find something in that price range (that's nice) which includes parking downtown.  I would look elsewhere for what you're looking to spend.

A lot of comments have been made about theft, damage to personal property, damage and disregard for the building property, and management's seemingly lack of doing anything about it.  A number of the reviewers cited the building's mixed-income and allowing of Section 8.

Well, I restate my earlier comment that the first place you live in here probably will be very temporary. You will probably find the right neighborhood/housing combination only after living here for a while and "trying out" various neighborhoods and seeing what housing options exist in them. It's very difficult to find the right place from afar.

BHG, make sure that the reviews of National Terminals were from the past year, since they are fairly recently under new ownership that promised to make improvements.

I know that a couple of the conversions on W. 9th had some affordable units due to the tax credits used in conversion, but I have a hard time believing that they would accept section 8, with the demand for rental housing downtown.

^Odds are somebody living in the building would refer to the affordable units required as part of the conversion to Section 8 even if not part of the program, as it is all the same to most people who do not know.  Say subsidy to them and they think Sec 8.

I am.  I have an appointment to look at a place on Edgewater Drive on Saturday.  Building looks ugly modern but the units look nice online.

I live in a 1960s-ugly condo building two blocks south of Edgewater on Clifton. While it's ugly outside, the inside looks very nice. I wasn't sure how I'd feel living in an ugly building. But since I have to look at the inside 98 percent of the time, I realized I'm OK with that. :)

KJP - You asked where I stayed in Lakewood and I never answered.  I stayed with some friends.  This weekend I am in a hotel as I scope out places.

In Lakewood? If not, there is a Day's Inn across the street from me and a Travelodge the next street north. Neither are opulent, but offer relatively clean lodging in a decent location.

Looked at them today ... National Terminal Warehouse Apartments: Cool spaces; CHEAP and horrible finishes.

In case anyone is interested, I decided to live in Oberlin actually.  I'm getting excited about it.  It will be a change but I think I may like it.

Welcome to Northeast Ohio!

Wow, Oberlin sure will be a change from downtown Cincy! Don't stop looking though. You're at least in a better physical position now to search for your dream neighborhood/home and you have the benefit of more time.

I hope you'll be a frequent poster in the Cleveland/NE Ohio threads.

Thanks KJP.  My thought was I can get a better feel for Cleveland while I'm up there and move into the city after a year.

If anyone puts together an UrbanOhio Cleveland Meet-up in say Spring, I'd love to go.  And while it will be odd, I'll start paying attention to Cleveland/NE Ohio posts in addition to Cincinnati stuff.  I've already been trying to familiarize myself with some posts like Crocker Park, Shoreway, Gordon Square, Battery Park, Steelyard Commons, etc. since those topics came up while I was looking for places.

Crocker Park?  Honey if so much as think about shopping there...turn in your gay card!  I'll have our Westside Union rep contact you.

lol.  Someone suggested I look at apartments there since it was between downtown and Oberlin.  So I checked out the threads on here about it in addition to looking at their website, etc. I decided for a number of reasons it wasn't for me.

Regardless of one's subjective opinions of Crocker Park (I dislike it as well), it's not really between downtown Cleveland and Oberlin anyway.  It's about 25 min from downtown, but probably only about 5 min closer to Oberlin than downtown.

congrats on your move. yes it will be quite a contrast from downtown cinci, but you will definately enjoy wintering away some time at the feve!
