You figure if it is Cranley there is going to be more to come with this.

It does seem like most of her politicians were Democrats, but I thought she did have a few Republicans too, correct me if I am wrong. If it is solely Democrats, it limits things to the larger cities. If Republicans are in the mix, it could be someone like a mayor from Findley or Delaware or someplace like that (but why bother with such a small fish).

It will be interesting to find this out.

Oh boy, DINO virtue signaling

Also Cranley, seemingly celebrating the death of a woman who was shot and killed for climbing through a window at the Capitol building:

"These are traitors," Cranley said, mentioning a pro-Trump supporter, Ashli Babbitt, a California resident who was shot and killed by Capitol police... "Traitors get shot. That's what happened."

She was climbing through a window to bypass a hasty barricade. I have heard that the barricade was setup to bar entry to the office of the Speaker of the House. If true, that sounds like a direct threat to national security and I don't see how shooting her would be any different than shooting someone trying to force their way onto a military installation. I don't necessarily agree with it but it doesn't sound unreasonable either.

I can't imagine Cranley would beat Nan Whaley or Tim Ryan in a primary.

Wendell Young says he reported Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley to the FBI in 2018

"Cincinnati City Councilman Wendell Young revealed for the first time that he called the FBI because he believed Mayor John Cranley was trying to bribe him during the 2018 fight over ousting a controversial city manager.

Back in 2018, Cranley wanted City Council to fire then-City Manager Harry Black, whom Cranley was angry at for firing an assistant police chief. A majority of council was refusing, hoping Black would be beholden to them for saving his job, thus allowing them to seize power from the mayor – details that were exposed in the "Gang of Five" text message scandal."

👀

Cranley never actually revealed the real reason that he wanted Black fired. He just bullied City Council until a majority of them supported the firing and massive severance package.

Funny how so many that decry her shooting are 100% behind "stand your ground".

Charter Committee wants mayor stripped of ‘pocket veto’

Seeking to restore itself as a force in Cincinnati politics amid City Hall’s corruption scandal, the Charter Committee on Wednesday unveiled a platform for the 2021 city elections, including removing the mayor’s power to hold up ordinances indefinitely.

It's a little disappointing that it's just a platform to apply for candidate endorsements, instead of some charter amendments but he seems to be signaling that they were not prepared for this:

John Cranley is now blaming DeWine's "disastrous shutdown" for rising crimes in Cincinnati:

The only problem is that Cranley was extremely supportive of the shutdown when it occurred:

At first glance I thought he was complaining about the lockdowns in some sort of attempt to appeal to right wingers, but on a re-read I see that he's really just trying to pass the buck for the record number of homicides and shootings in Cincinnati last year. Instead of saying the big increase matched what's happened in other major cities, and seems to be a result of a global pandemic, sudden unemployment, protests and riots in the streets, and a widespread push to "defund the police," he tried to lay it all on DeWine, someone he hopes to one day face in the general election for governor.

It was a pretty silly intention to begin with, but he totally botched it and came off sounding like an anti-lockdown protestor instead. It's like he forgot there's a primary.

I was with you until "defund the police."  Was Cincinnati's police budget cut in the last year?

Anyway, didn't realize one of the Dems top governor candidates for '22 was going to align himself with...*checks notes*...Jim Jordan.

I was going to say the same thing, and then realized it's not worth arguing with ram. He says these things to be divisive. The idea of defunding the police clearly led to additional homicides in his mind.

John Cranley is a moron, and I would vote for DeWine over Cranley if those were my choices today.

With this kind of rhetoric he might be looking to get locked in a battle with Mandel for 3rd place in the Republican gubernatorial primary.

I think the movement to defund the police emboldened criminals and has resulted in a lot more reactive policing, in lieu of proactive. Police don't want to make a mistake and get labeled racist, so they are more hesitant to interject in a situation they may have previously been able to deescalate. I think that is a fairly widespread view and not at all divisive.

To extend an olive branch, I wholeheartedly agree with your second statement.

This is a rookie political move since he was a strong supporter of the shutdown. Blatantly political. Also questionable since pretty much everyone is happy with DeWine’s handling of the pandemic except for the right wing of the GOP.

Cranley frets over potential state party endorsement in governor’s race

Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley is concerned the Ohio Democratic Party will endorse Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, his opponent for governor in the 2022 Democratic primary, which is scheduled for May 3.

At a meeting of the party’s executive committee on Dec. 7, Cranley urged the party to stay out of the primary. Whaley has lined up the support of a bigger share of elected Democratic officials, including U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Cleveland, the Democrats’ sole non-judicial statewide elected official.

“I think there is an issue of fairness not being addressed,” Cranley posted in a Zoom chat message obtained by the Business Courier. “Why not have a vote ‘not to endorse’ first? A majority may want to stay neutral but if everyone (is) forced to vote on both candidates, then one could get 60 (percent) but not the other.”

He got the ODP endorsement for mayor in 2017 when he was running against Yvette Simpson, another Democrat. I don't recall him asking them to not take action in that race....

Former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley joins downtown law firm

Former Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley has rejoined the law firm where he practiced before being elected to public office.

Keating Muething & Klekamp, headquartered downtown at 1 E. Fourth St., announced Monday Cranley has joined the firm as an attorney of counsel in its real estate group. He is also co-chairing the firm's government affairs practice area.

"A lot of the things we do, John helps bring that to another level," KMK Managing Partner Alan Fershtman told me.
