So, the Enquirer disagrees with Cranley on the two major issues that differentiate him from Qualls. And then they admit Cranley aims "to score political points rather than find solutions" on those issues. Yet they endorse Cranley.

That Enquirer editorial on Cranley doesn't sound a single thing like Cranley the mayoral candidate. Even if he is who the Enquirer says he is, why would we think he would focus on anything as mayor besides the parking deal and the streetcar? Have they been following his campaign at all?

I wonder what it feels like to be Carolyn Washburn, "editor" of a "newspaper" that has no journalistic integrity.

2010: "Strickland's been a good governor. We endorse Kasich."

2013: "Cranley has a lot of problems, and no real plan for the city. We endorse him."

As the "editor," I wonder what that must feel like. I'm guessing she feels like a piece of shit.

One of the commenters at fishwar.com lists a bunch of their endorsements. This one seems a lot like their endorsement of ken Blackwell for governor.

They endorsed kasich, too & were suing him within weeks of the election.

^That is a good way to run afoul of elections law for whoever put that up.

That is, if they are affiliated with a campaign.

FWIW, his policy seems to be just that - COAST on the momentum that's been built.

Cranley says he’ll repay $75,000 LISC loan

Mayoral candidate John Cranley, who’s developing the Incline Village project in East Price Hill, has not repaid a $75,000 loan his former development company got in 2009 for work on what was planned to be a medical office building and 77 apartments.

The loan is a “non-issue,” said Jay Kincaid, Cranley’s campaign manager.

He said Cranley agreed more than a year ago to repay the money “as the development becomes profitable.”

In response to Mike Moroski's tweet to the same affect, Greg Harris said this: "@gregharris71: @mike_moroski Actually, 84% of fundraising TOTAL came from R's.  What ways will GOP big $ buy influence in a Cranley Administration?"

For comparison of Qualls v. Cranley, Mike Moroski also tweeted this: "@mike_moroski Attn. Dems!  Just above 0% of Qulls' financing came from registered republicans (of those registered with a party)."

Does anybody else find it hilarious that Cranley's endorsements keep hurting him?  This Enquirer endorsement was a blessing from above.  Look at the responses online.  They're overwhelmingly against Cranley.

^There also seems to be an echo-chamber on the Internet though, so I wouldn't look too much into this response online. I'm sure some readers will reconsider support of Cranley after reading this endorsement and realizing he won't be able to do the two things he has been compaigning on. Definitely not well written. It is almost as if someone wrote a Qualls endorsement, and then at the last minute someone from Virginia called in and told them to change three sentences to endorse Cranley without fixing the rest of the article.

I wouldn't doubt that. The print demo is much different than the web demo and upper management doesn't want to alienate the print people out in Georgetown.

Cranley, where are the invoices for this $75,000 worth of work?  For all we know these $75,000 are in Cranley's pocket.

Yeah, "proud".  Something Portsmouth or Ironton could be proud of.

Just saw my first Qualls commercial in several weeks last night.  I was a bit surprised that it had been several weeks since she had run a commercial (or at least one that I had heard).  Cranley has been steadily running a couple commercials per hour during the WCPO evening news for the past couple weeks, as have several of the City Council candidates.  I know that Cranley has raised more money that Qualls for the campaign, but I really do hope that the lack of TV commercials doesn't have a negative impact on the undecided voters.

Coast is actively and publicly shilling for John Cranley.  Check out swohcc twitter page

Nice work Derek Bauman

Paul Booth, 1 of the 4 former NAACP presidents supporting Roxanne Qualls, changes his mind and is now supporting Cranley.

^Any reasoning given? Was he possibly hired as a "campaign consultant" or something?

Cranley's vision for Cincinnati:

aerial-post.jpg

From the Enquirer in 2002:

They wanted a chic mix of trendy boutiques like Newport on the Levee or Rookwood Commons in Norwood, Cincinnati city planners and Oakley residents say. What they got were the "big-box" stores of Fields Ertel Road.

[...]

"Everywhere I go, people ask, `Why are you letting Newport and Norwood kick your butt?' " said Councilman John Cranley, an enthusiastic supporter of the Vandercar project.

"Beggars can't be choosers," he said. "This development would look a lot better if the planning commission hadn't given the developer such a hard time for a year and a half."

Well, the Cranley loan scandal(?) went over like a lead balloon, didn't it?

It's great that you brought this up, because I can't think of a lamer end to hype than Newport on the Levee.  That project succeeded if it was Newport's answer to the question, "Do you think we could build a place where a bunch of 12 to 14 year olds could hang out?"  I certainly have my complaints about the Banks project (1- the absolutely insipid architecture; 2- the baffling parking garages on top of parking garages; 3- streets that are too wide) but taking the time to do it (mostly) right was the right way to go.

As for the old Milacron site in Oakley, it is certainly a wasted opportunity, but it's nothing that can't be torn down.

Cranley:

"Christopher  Smitherman will not be my vice mayor choice but he is a great friend of mine and will serve an important role in my administration"

Finance Committee?

Larry Frazier sued Cranley in 2003.  Anyone know the results?

Larry Frazier says Cincinnati City Councilman John Cranley treated him differently from other employees before firing him -- all because he's black.

Cranley says Frazier's work wasn't as good as that of other employees, almost all of whom have degrees.

In March, the Ohio Civil Rights Commission (OCRC) found probable cause to believe Cranley racially discriminated against Frazier. Now the case goes to the Ohio Attorney General's Office for what Cranley says will be the first fair hearing.

Just saw a Cranley anti-Qualls anti-streetcar ad on WCPO. I guess that's a good sign (close race)?

I just love this part:

But the deal also required Paycor to remain in Cincinnati through 2015. Since Paycor’s move violates the agreement, the city administration says it plans to claw back some of the tax benefits given to the company.  In other words, Cranley in 2001 approved a tax deal with Paycor that the company, with his help, is now set to break...

...Although the city is taking a hit, Cranley’s relations with the payroll company appear unscathed. Paycor CEO Bob Coughlin contributed $1,100 to Cranley’s campaign on Aug. 20, according to campaign finance reports."

And he took a $1100 donation from the ceo of paycor!

^It's probably also worth noting that $1,100 is the individual contribution limit.  So Paycor's CEO potentially would have contributed much more, if allowed.

I actually think this is a reach.  So what, the firm he worked for was hired to represent a company relocating.  That hardly means his interests were represented.  Most of us are design professionals on this site.  Does even half the stuff we work on that gets built accurately reflect who we are as individuals?  No.

It wasn't just the firm he was working for, he worked on it personally. He should have asked the law firm to recuse himself for political reasons.

I gotta give City Bleat some credit considering it's about the only non-Republican media outlet in town. It's pretty much them against the Fishwarp, Fear Channel Radio & all the TV stations. As outrageous as those clowns get, CB might as well make up some pics of Cranley eating puppies.

By the time he was assigned to work with Paycor, he darn well knew he was going to run for mayor.  If this incident happened several years ago, I'd say this was a non-issue, but since this has happened since he has known he was running for mayor, this is a really big deal to me.

He should have excused himself from this and he did not.

yeah, if he just pulled running for mayor of a city this size out of his butt over the summer, we really don't need him

Shit, we might as well get on him for getting murderers and rapists out of prison via the innocence project.  This is a joke.  He's a lawyer who was hired to do a job.  It's not like the jobs moved out of the region, they only moved like 5 miles as the crow flies.

^ You seem to think Cranley is doing pretty well. How rational are his arguments? At least this one is factually based, which is more than can be said for much of what comes out of Cranley & Co.'s mouths. If it helps get some people to turn out, so be it.

Qualls will be on the buzz at 11 for an hour

How are the polls looking? I still don't have a good feeling about this race. It could send Cincinnati 5-10+ years back if a certain person wins...any chances for improving voter turnout? Too bad I don't live in Cincinnati ;)

I already donated to the Qualls campaign. Hope it helped.

If Cranley lets Phase 1 happen, Phase 2 could be delayed for 5-10 years. If he actually cancels the streetcar, it may be another generation before we get rail transportation here. And a lot of people won't be willing to wait that long... they'll just move to one of the many other cities that has or is building rail.

Cranley's bad week — will it matter?

Chris Wetterich - Staff reporter - Cincinnati Business Courier

John Cranley has not had a very good week, the last full one in the 2013 Cincinnati mayoral campaign.

On Tuesday, the Cincinnati Enquirer broke a story about an unpaid, $75,000 loan by his former development company to the Local Initiatives Support Corporation. The loan was to help Cranley and his partner develop the Lower Price Hill Incline District property they purchased.

The loan was due in 2011. LISC extended in to 2012, but it still wasn’t paid. Cranley and LISC worked out repayment terms the day the story came out, but WCPO wrote its own version of the story. The loan was forgivable, Cranley told the Enquirer, but he decided not to walk away from it.

"Qualls' realty violated state ethics law: can't take fee from someone who does business with city"

Except that this violation dated to 1986. How far back do folks go to find dirt on people? And the original poster - derek_bauman - who had only one post, deleted his account. (Apparently he is a strong Qualls supporter.)

One of the COASTies created an account named Derek Bauman on Reddit. This is how low they're stooping.

Thanks - might have it deleted.
