The trees will be nice when they're just a little fuller...I like that they added them.

Any news on stores trying to open or coming to TC?

I'm not being a smart-ass when I say this, but if there were any news, you can bet your last dollar, someone would post that information here or in the Cleveland retail thread.

Can I get a link to that thread?

Yep, right over in the Ohio Business and Economy area.

List of stores that have been emptied from Tower City in the past few weeks City Leather, K-Line and Dough Ray Me. The K-Line and City Leather are both huge spaces and Dough Ray Me is closed to make space for a larger store moving in. I believe Forest City is going to leave these spaces closed to make space for more known stores and may have something in line for those spaces in my opinion.

Cool, they can get the buildouts done in time for the holiday season if they land some stores they are looking for

Yeah those two are both large spaces with great locations. Especially City Leather right in the front of the mall. And the K-Line space always stood out. Im really hoping for something good to turn this mall around.

Anyone know what stores were in those locations were back in the early 90's hayday of tower city (when I worked there :) )

The Firsf Cleveland Disney Store was in the first space on the right when u first walked in off Public Square.

The old  store?

(This is wierd, but the word D I S N E Y will not show up in my post?!?)

I had the same D*I*S*N*E*Y issue...

I have asked the admin's about the issue.  Sorry for throwing the thread off track.

But, it sounds like the rebirth of "The Avenue" is beginning!

I forgot it was called that for a while Ha! But yes it is and I will keep an eye out for store openings and other progress

It's still called that. The mall was always referred to as "The Avenue at Tower City Center". Technically Tower City Center is the entire complex, including the Higbee building, Post Office Plaza, etc. But the mall itself is just referred to as Tower City for obvious, name simplifying reasons. But yeah its actual name has always been The Avenue. Just isn't used often, which is a shame cause that's a cool name. Okay tangent over. Lol

Yes it is but you basically can't use the name now to describe the mall because people are so used to calling it Tower City that if you used the Avenue they may get confused.  :-o

Just call it Tower City Mall.  That accomplishes everything a name needs to accomplish... it conveys to everyone what you're talking about.  Calling it "The Avenue" is indistinct at best, and it doesn't help that now there's an area using that same name next to a different mall on the other side of downtown.

Yeah that's what I thought about (The Avenue District) when I saw The Avenue in a post about ten minutes ago but had to realize we are in the Tower City thread so I put the pieces together lol

I was looking up some information and was directed to the website www.towercitycleveland.com. Is this the new site? There's some interesting stuff like the lighting schedule for TT and a falcon cam. ;) but if you google Tower City you are led to www.towercitycenter.com

Both long time sites both owned by Forest City.

Just looking at the home page I like the towercitycleveland one better!

Anyone remember the old "It's on the Avenue" commercials? I was like 5 when they used to air on local TV. And yea, I definitely typed "D I S N E Y" in that post!

Do you REALLY have to say that? ? ? ancient.gif

OK, anyone remember this commercial from when I was five? Too bad they didn't have the "If you haven't seen Higbee's" jingle in this commercial but it's got the instrumental song version.....

BACK ON TOPIC! ;)

KJP...

Here you go!

and if you're really old school you'll remember this commercial and have this game!

Why arent they lighting up the tower?

Thanks MTS.

In the past, tower lighting has gone out when they make changes to the lighting. Most times they can program the lighting. But they may actually be changing equipment (and light bulbs?).

They were all over tv when I moved here. Thought it was terrific marketing, it made me want to go. There was a lot of pride in that mall back then.

Then suddenly, I never saw a Tower City commercial ever again!

Did some checking and noticed the Annual ICSC Conference in Vegas was in May. Usually there is some local news reported about such and such mayor going with joe schmoe to lure in national retailers. I sure hope we do not have to wait until next may to hear news.

That sounds like you got some news (or at least a hot rumor)? Care to share if you dare?

Well I just went through the first 1500 listed attendees at the ICSC Conference,  btw there is about a zillion more. Those I saw from Cleveland were Forest City, DDR Corp (Wolstien), KA Architecture (think Welcome Center) and Jacobs Visconsi. So maybe we will hear something soon.

I know nothing. Just reiterating what others post when too many questions are asked regarding any project: "If there is news, it will likely be posted here before anywhere else"

The entrance structure where K-Line used to be is being removed.  Have to imagine that this would only be done if something would be moving in.

I agree because the toy store used the same entrance structure when it was there. Some place wants to construct their own storefront probably, so that might be a good sign its something good.

And if its where the Warner Brothers store was (which is why that monstrosity was build in the first place), then thats good news all around since the structure no longer really had a place/purpose there.  In fact, the whole place had become too covered with inapproriate things that only detract from the architecture.

I just smiled ear to ear by hearing that I will take pics of it and post them ASAP!

Pics of the K-Line sign coming down and also seems like work is going on in the old Dough Ray Me next to Foot Locker....

Also the old WB store sign is coming down! Ahhhh Progress!!

And now Im smiling ear to ear as well.  Thanks McCleve...

So good to see.

But there is one thing i do not see - building permits. which might have lent a clue as to what is going on in the particular storefronts.

Oh well.

Would TC even need building permits displayed on those storefronts?  I can't recall them being posted whenever another mall redoes a store, but never looked either.

Not sure. Don't recall seeing them ever before either. Just looking for a clue as to whats going on before the masses find out ;)

Yeah I dont believe they would post the permits.

All gone!  This store is really big btw. It goes back into like two or three different sections. They used it as our on-set holding area when I was in the Avengers.
