June 27, 201212 yr For people in the know, are any of the buildings in the Terminal Tower complex, including the TT suitable for a residential conversion?
June 28, 201212 yr Author I think the Landmark Office Towers of the Guildhall, Midland and Republic buildings would be fantastic apartment buildings. Those are the three 18-story buildings that appear to be one and once had the Witness poster hanging off it.... http://www.landmarkofficetowers.com/history.htm My suggestion for a dream scenario? Consolidate office users from one of the three building into vacant spaces in the other two. Unfortunately I do not know the vacancy rates, but since this is a Class C building complex I doubt it is very high. So renovate one of the office buildings as residential. And as leases expire for office tenants in the remaining two buildings, consolidate the last of them into the one remaining office building and renovate the second building as residential. Then renovate the third building for residential when possible. I'd also like to see the undeveloped "hole" at Ontario and Huron be developed with a glassy, Vegas-style building of restaurants, multi-story aquatic/recreation center, casino hotel or something casino related, as the basement could be used to connect the phase 1 casino with phase 2. BTW, I realize Sherwin Williams is probably the biggest tenant of the Landmark Office Towers. They would be the ideal anchor tenant for an office tower built on Jacobs' parking lot on Public Square. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
June 28, 201212 yr BTW, all the steel is now gone from the former K line sign. Hopefully something will be reveled soon regarding this space. It is quite big, even though the frontage isnt that much.
June 29, 201212 yr Speaking of staying open later Forest City sent around a paper to all stores in Tower City stating that while they won't switch to a 9 a.m to 9 p.m open close time just yet they are giving the stores the option of opening and closing at those previously mentioned times starting this week pending request and approval. Also some of the workers in the food court were saying that their respective stores were discussing a 24 hour operation especially Charley's Subs. Some stores will be open from 9-9 this week so I feel Forest City is testing the waters with this plan we will have to wait and see if the switch will be permanent. I'll keep you all posted. So what is the update with this? What are the hours of the stores and places to eat in and around TC? I've been to the casino a bunch of times since it opened and the food places in the casino close around 2am, so if your hungry after that you have to leave. I went to jakes once and had a sandwich, which was good, but id like more options.

Well technically the hours are back to normal now (11-7) but some stores now operate from (10-8..) and on Saturday's some restaurants are open till 9.
June 29, 201212 yr Hours "back to normal?" What were they, say two months ago? It will be so interesting to see how the mix of stores shakes out. Two of what I consider the "schlockiest" have closed and, of course, I'd like to see stores of more quality in their place. I've followed it all, from the 1990 grand reopening (and for 17 years before that) - all through the Gucci, Calvin Klein, Fendi, and all the upscale rest....

June 29, 201212 yr ^ Prospect Avenue and Euclid Avenue would be a nice fit For once, you've got the right answer! ;)

I say this all the time when I'm at work...more specifically I say put all the popular nationally known stores left in TC (Lids, Victoria Secret, Brooks Brothers etc.) on Euclid and go from there. Then re-do TC into something else that won't have that beautiful space gone to waste...
June 29, 201212 yr If you close your store at 7, you have no one to blame but yourself. Well true idk why TC cut hours anyway it's not like they close the entire complex at 7 the lights are still on as well as other things. For example in my store we have our own lights that we pay for but TC also has their own set of lights that run 24/7 so the expenses are still there; why not run then for an extra couple of hours to make more money from it to offset costs? It's especially bad when downtown has large amounts of tourists that come in the mall at 7-7:30 looking to spend money but leave disappointed when we tell them the mall is closed. That is a nice amount of money lost because you don't want to stay open, and this happens constantly when tourists are here huge groups cant spend their money its kind of discouraging.

Hard to say. The more upscale stores likely not, since their target population now lives further from the center city than they did when Tower City initially opened, and the majority of the "new" downtown population doesnt really fit their demographic, but the mid-range stores may be a different story based on the demographics of this population. No doubt the numbers/demographic information that they collect of the typical casino patron will play into this as well.

The money you save by closing early is received in exchange for permanently alienating the market. That is a bad deal every single time.
June 29, 201212 yr Also forest city said there is a noticeable amount of increased traffic at TC why not at least extend hours to 10-8 at least to capitalize on it. Then they can continue to do their demographic check to attract more stores while making more money with increased hours. The least they can do is a trial with those hours to see if it works. The problem though when the stores had increased hours as an option was NO ONE KNEW ABOUT IT!! So the increased hours were burning holes in the stores pockets because word hadn't gotten out about the increased hours and people were used to the 7 o'clock closing time. FC really needs to work on major advertising again whenever something like this happens or when a store opens so people know about it.

Hey mid-range stores would be a big upgrade over what is there now...(they have a DOLLAR STORE in the middle of the main corridor and is one of the larger spaces) so if they could attract them I'll take it

Do you know their marketing, sales plans and money allocated for marketing, sales and advertising? I don't but from what I see since I work here everyday and receive their letters they send to the stores nothing is really changing and I said at least for right now in my post before so I didn't say they won't do it in the future. Their marketing though is lackluster at best because as I said before No one knew about their extended hours because they didn't advertise it they also don't try to advertise their remaining stores in the paper or on TV anymore and it's bad... .I work at the Lids store down here and soooo many people didnt know one was down here and we've been here since '97. I'm not saying its entirely FC's fault but they aren't doing their lions share to promote the remaining national stores they have. Maybe they could at least take from there "it's on the avenue" ads from the past and run an ad saying "it's STILL on the avenue" showing their last remaining stores that are popular to try to spark interest..
June 29, 201212 yr I was in Brooks Brothers yesterday and the sales girl was saying there were rumors but didn't tell me what they were...I don't like secrets haha.

June 30, 201212 yr A girl who works at the store Rainbow on the 2nd floor told me today that their last day is July 14th....so there is another opening A guy who works at TC told me he has heard rumors that FC is thinking of using the old K-Line space for the old Christmas thing they do every year at the back of the mall since the Casino took the space they used

Second part, not so much. The only way they should use that space is if they cant find anyone to rent it out, which wouldn't be a good sign.
June 30, 201212 yr I was there yesterday. Nice to see those signs down. But now I really want the Footlocker sign to come down! Its covering a really nice storefront

Fair enough but all footlocker signs stand out with the bold letters that big so they needed a structure strong enough to support it and that's the one they picked
July 1, 201212 yr Sounds like TC Is definitely cleaning house. I wish we just knew what was to come!!!
July 1, 201212 yr Sounds like TC Is definitely cleaning house. I wish we just knew what was to come!!! Did I mention Manhattan on the second floor is supposed to be leaving as well?
July 1, 201212 yr I have a feeling nothing concrete is planned to move in TC/FC is just leaving spots open for prospective stores because they are clearing the large spaces. There was a guy from best buy scouting space for a best buy mobile but I haven't heard anything since, maybe they are moving in
July 1, 201212 yr I wonder if anything will come out of the Gap/Banana Republic, J. Crew, and House of Hoops rumors we heard awhile back.
July 1, 201212 yr I wonder if anything will come out of the Gap/Banana Republic, J. Crew, and House of Hoops rumors we heard awhile back. The house of hoops moving in hit a snag when they couldn't find a large enough space to their specifications, which makes me wonder was closing the K-line and Dough Ray Me apart of a plan to finally move them in.
July 1, 201212 yr ^ And those are right next to Footlocker Correct they are now thinking of converting and expanding the Footlocker space into a House of Hoops which would be an upgrade seeing as there is only one in the state (Columbus). We will see though
July 2, 201212 yr Of course the Gap, J Crew, and Banana Republic would be coming back. House of Hoops might be good, but imagine a NikeTown, instead. And imagine of these were all on the street, instead !!...

I wish Cleveland had street front clothing stores the streets would (hopefully) BOOM!
July 2, 201212 yr Was just in TC and saw no sign of Manhattan or Dario leaving. Rainbow had a "Clearance" sign but that's it. Some sort of "inner" knowledge displayed, here? These are among the stores I'd rather see replaced yes, along with all the jewelers except possibly the returned Dakota store. No, I'm not wishing for their death - just that they leave downtown Cleveland.

No, I'm not wishing for their death - just that they leave downtown Cleveland. Rainbow workers told me they were leaving, Manhattan is havin a 50-70% off sale on all Merchandise which City Leather had before they left (they also never posted a closing soon sign but they are gone) and Dario Fashion group rumor I heard from security along with Manhattan and they must be notified of stores that are opening and closing to prepare for it. YOU ALSO NEVER ANSWERED MY QUESTION!!!! lol
July 3, 201212 yr Answer is this is a dream scenario. Every once in a while a business leaves a mall and comes back. It happened with the bookstore in TC and actually with the Dakota, as well. Those security people have loose lips, which sometimes sink ships.... It was pretty darned clear the leather place was closing. These places frequently have had showy reductions - it's in the nature of the beast. Thanks for clarifying.

I thought the Manhattan place was the old Charlotte Russe and he's supposed to be leaving so that would still leave the possibility of it coming back to its old place. The Dario space seems VERY small to hold a Charlotte Russe though

Ugggh unfortunately your dream scenario crushed my dreams haha....but hopefully those spaces come back but if only one comes back I believe it would be gap. I say that because it seems more likely to succeed with the demographic of people who live downtown now over the other two. (Just my opinion.) Also they would have to find a new space because the store Villa is in their space and is doing well. They could remove the dollar store and move them there though. If banana republic wanted to move to its old space they would have to settle to move next door because the store Next moved in and cut the space in half. If the city room space next door to Next is identical to each other then its still a nice sized space for a banana republic. The old Lane Bryant space isn't an option either because the "Go Games" woman who comes to TC during holiday season is holding the lease hostage and has control of the space even though she is temporary. I don't know if those three potential stores (J.Crew,Gap,BR) would be willing to accept a spot at the back of the mall. Having a casino right there though can change a lot of things as far as location though. We will see.
