Love the freighter vibe. I would take it a bit further by adding a smokestack/observation tower.  Lit up at night you would see it from most angles of the city. A new landmark.

My original impression from earlier renderings was that of a sperm whale, and I wanted a jet of water into the air feature at the front end.  The Cleveland Clinic square could be one eye, and you can imagine the gaping mouth below.

By the way, how can you not approve a building when it is presented by a guy with a British accent.

I’ve built a whole career on this basis.

My hovercraft is full of eels

I am excited by this first build. It holds great promise for Bedrock's commitment to the entire proposed development

Since the name of this complex is a mouthful: petition to begin colloquially calling this building "The Barge" (non-derogatory), spiritual successor to "The Shack" (derogatory) 😆

Glad it’s the Cavs and not Browns as I am sure some would suggest “The Titanic”

Can't stop...what are the odds the rooftop becomes an unintended tourist trap for photos and enagements.  Why not since Cleveland had to endure the famous Johnny Carson joke: “What’s the difference between Cleveland and the Titanic? Cleveland has a better orchestra.”  Now we can have both.

for sure getting a quick start with getting something built is definitely important for optics. 👍

While this technically doesn't matter since it's outside of the scope being discussed, I find it interesting that the massing at W3rd and Stones Levee has changed between the two most recent design review meetings.

Again, this is out of scope, so it technically doesn't matter, but the easiest thing would have been to copy/paste, leaving this massing unchanged. For some reason, someone gave this some thought. Maybe that means something is coming sooner than later, or maybe it means absolutely nothing. They could just be acknowledging the current parking lot, it could be a planned plaza, there are infinite explanations, like I said it's interesting, and if this isn't the place to post random speculation, where is?

for the uo record i would say the formal groundbreaking ceremony counts as ‘world class signage.’ 🎉😂

Looks good, though seeing this on video really makes me hope that the buildings end up looking substantially different thanks the Adjaye massings. My understanding is that they are placeholder designs, but it isn't normal to bring in an internationally recognizer architect for placeholder designs, so it isn't obvious that they are.

My hope is for these buildings to be beautiful. Let's build the kind of buildings we want to see reflected in big box buildings, not more big boxes, glassy or otherwise. There's lots of great inspiration to draw from surrounding buildings, like Terminal Tower and the Landmark Office Complex, let's draw from those beauties, and add beauty to our city!

Someone in Cincinnati stopped paying the bill in 2003.

Careful, if you find a good one available you better buy it on the spot. Registrars comb through every search and buy up the best ones before anyone else can. I learned this the hard way.

Between the lakefront, riverfront, Burke, Irishtown Bend, W 25th projects, PHSQ/Greyhound, Warehouse District/Courthouse projects, and everything else that's already planned or basically necessary: the "urban core" is on a trajectory to become seriously impressive in the next decade or two. With interest rates coming down I'm betting there's even more to come than we expect.

I'm aware this is basically what people have been saying for years, but it really seems like we've begun a generational shift that has taken on a different attitude toward cities.

Ive written as much in other threads and I cant write it enough. Being the "old" man on this blog, i remember when all of the above would have been considered a pipe dream - dismissed as nothing but fantasy. I remember W25th in the 70's. Prospect Ave and more. I know im in the minority here but im ok with the stadium going to BP and even the use of count/state money to help get it done. It will re develop a much needed area and free the city from having to offer any money that could be used for lakefront development. Downtown will thrive nevertheless. And as far a stagnancy is concerned, we'v already seen data from Census Bureau that population may be beginning to rebound.  Ok, rant over!

  • 2 weeks later...

Our riverfront seems to be more beautiful than it has been in decades - and it’s going to continue to take shape and be even more a signature “face” of the city for years to come.

Good eye! That view between the bridge arches will frame the Cavs/Clinic Phase 1a perfectly - and also what follows.

This pic viewpoint really drives home how critical the reimagining of the hulking but beautiful Sherwin Williams structure will be.

I hope Bedrock made a pitch for the soon to be released TMUDs!  If the County can't build new in the Pit this may not be a bad alternative for spin-off effect alone!

Could be why Ronayne has gone silent on this other than today's PD statement to the Judges who want to reopen the earlier joint committee on both the new jail and courts decisions.  The judges may not like whatever decision gossip they are hearing.

Maybe, but is it to remove the Stones Levee bridge?

No. It’s a deep foundation rig.

Port OK’s $171M in financing for major projects
By Ken Prendergast / November 14, 2024

The Port of Cleveland today approved the issuance of more than $171 million in bonds and notes for four transformative projects, including the pivotal first new development in Bedrock’s Riverfront project along the Cuyahoga River and a major affordable housing renovation in downtown Cleveland, among other strategic initiatives.

Are there different pictures of bombs dropping for different levels of stories. Say this one for a decent project, but atomic explosion for say a much larger one? Just trying to gauge the impact of upcoming stories based on bomb pics.

Also mods could we maybe change this thread name to "Cleveland: Downtown: Tower City / The Riverfront"?

So thankful for the @KJP bombs that temporarily bring joy & hope to distract from all the other news.

Downtown Riverfront entertainment complex, Browns Berea site, others seek TMUDs
By Ken Prendergast / November 15, 2024

The next phase of Bedrock’s Downtown Cleveland Riverfront development is proposed to feature a large, 17-story entertainment complex topped by a hotel. Dubbed Rock and Roll Land, it is the largest of seven Northeast Ohio projects and is seeking the largest award possible in the fourth and final authorized round of the Ohio Department of Development’s Transformation Mixed Use Development (TMUD) tax credits.

“We are also discussing expanding the Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s scenic railroad to Downtown Cleveland with a terminus at our project site with regional partners and the National Park Service,”

I was liking the details of this project as it was, but this statement sold it for me.

Rock Hall expansion, Rock and Roll Land. Hmmm,  Baby Boomers now identified as the new market inefficiency?

Local real estate experts have speculated that the hotel will be a Shinola brand, with whom Bedrock has partnered in downtown Detroit. The redacted word in the application is about seven letters long.

As someone who tries to make sense of redacted info on a daily basis, I salute this clever bit of detective work.

Come on TMUD! Ohio, it's Cleveland's turn after the last round - hopefully this is the stongest and highest-profile project among the competitors.

^yeah...curious what the competition is from down south.
