An airline closes, and with it, an era

"The wind-down of USA3000, a small carrier serving Mexico and the Caribbean, marks the end of an era. Its story, from genesis to exit, is also the story of how these sun-and-fun destinations became important mass-tourism playgrounds for Americans. And its history clarifies the issues that package tour operators, hoteliers and destination marketers faced in building up these regions. "

Great article, really speaks to the challenges of LCCs and especially these leisure-only airlines.

Allegiant is doing quite well. Only airline to profit during the recession.

What has Allegiant got to do with USA3000?  What is the connection?

Maybe this should merged with this thread? http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,15826.0.html

I responded that Allegiant does quite well.

Not sure what that means.  Southwest had profitable quarters during the recession.  Allegiant (like most other carriers) also had an early 2000s bankruptcy before its current run of success.

True, however Allegiant has been profitable for 36 straight quarters, no other airline out there can boast that record. The only two airlines I would EVER consider investing into are Allegiant and Spirit. Both have solid models and are poised to continue to be profitable moving forward.

But the only thing of significance in this thread is that USA3000 once touted as a fair-haired prodegy went Kaput! That is the main message.
