January 27, 201213 yr ToCleveland for what it's worth I live in California and visit Cleveland often, in fact I am here right now and staying in Ohio City which you should absolutely check out along with Tremont and Detroit Shoreway especially Battery Park. I have traveled by car at least six times in the last week from Ohio City and it took no longer than 15 minutes to drive past the CC. I took the Bob Hope bridge to downtown then Euclid down to CC, and at all times of the morning, afternoon etc. You have to take the info about traffic issues here with a little bit of caution because it doesn't even compare to California. The East Side is an excellent choice for sure but you cannot over look these West Side neighborhoods for a great combination of residential and things like restaurants/bars. Don't let the commute fear stop you from checking these areas out. ToCleveland: If you are use to LA traffic, everything here is a breeze. You can make it to the Clinic from OC/Tremont in 15 no doubt. 15 Minutes? Lets give realistic information. I can't get from my house to the CC in 15 min. on a consistent basis. After 9pm or the weekend, maybe. On the bus, 15 min., is the min. OC/Tremont to CC in 15 is a huge stretch.
January 27, 201213 yr I am going to add one point. Moving to a new City, you have to get to know your surroundings. Under such circumstances, and especially considering that your significant other will be moving with you, safety might be something to think about. While all of the neighborhoods mentioned are great areas to live and I would not hesitate to recommend any of them, they almost all border a much more undesirable area. Immediately to the north of Coventry is one of the more crime-ridden parts of the metro. I'm sure you've heard that the area aroudn the Clinic and UC is not all peaches and ice cream. People will give you specific recommendations on where to live in Tremont so as to not be too close to its neighbors. Same goes for Ohio City and Detroit Shoreway. Even Lakewood will have some undesirable parts and/or border on some undesirable areas. The one exception may be Cedar-Fairmount where you would have a decent 'buffer zone' in all directions. Say your wife likes walking..... you wouldn't feel compelled to tell her not to walk in this or that direction. It's certainly not completely crime free (what urban environment is?) but it is much less prone to spill over incidents. And, with the crowd being a little older, it would be more mellow as far as visitors to the neighborhood looking to have a good time. Food for thought.
May 11, 201213 yr Thanks everyone for all the advice. My wife and I were in Cleveland for a few days a couple of weeks ago. We were able to find a small rental house in between cedar-lee and coventry. I drove around and explored a lot of areas and we were really impressed with Cleveland. I think the highlight of the trip was dinner in little italy. As I will be in cleveland for many years I will most likley look at purchasing in the next 12 months. Appreciate all the advice.
May 12, 201213 yr Welcome to Cleveland, ToCleveland! Please post here any questions or requests for advice about things to do, places to see and more. Many things in and about Cleveland are not readily apparent, so don't be afraid to ask. May 13, 201213 yr Thanks. What is everyone's favorite internet service provider in Cleveland Heights?
May 13, 201213 yr If you plan to get cable tv, you might as well bundle internet with your tv and phone. It may not be the cheapest, but I'm satisfied with our Time Warner packeage.
May 13, 201213 yr I might bundle, but would prefer not. I have dish and am very satisfied with them. Also, I don't plan on getting a home phone line.
June 8, 201213 yr Hello everyone, I am officially renting in Cleveland Heights just a little north of Cedar/Lee (east of lee, between superior and euclid). I am asking about night time safety. I asked around and everyone I talked with indicated that the area was relatively safe as long as you keep your wits. I am wondering if anyone has any comments on safety walking between my area and Cedar/Lee or Coventry Village? Appreciate it.

If you're saying your just east of Cumberland Park, then the area is very safe. It's a stable middle class/upper middle class area.
June 8, 201213 yr Just east of Cain Park. Cain or Cumberland, same diffence, they're connected. As stated earlier the area is very safe.
June 8, 201213 yr MTS is right that your description is a bit confusing. I ssume you mean Euclid Hts Blvd (not Euclid Ave). What street are you on? Hyde Park/Superior Park/Altamount/Desota/Berkely/Beechwood? That area? Perhaps one of the large tudor buildings closer to and along Taylor Rd? Or did you mean to say 'west' of Lee and Cain Park on Cumberland, perhaps?
June 8, 201213 yr I realized in the evening my error. I live just WEST of LEE road a couple of blocks south of Euclid road. Thus, just WEST of cain park. Sorry for the confusion and I really appreciate the feedback.

Sorry for the confusion and I really appreciate the feedback. Euclid does not run in Cleveland Heights. Please say "Euclid Hts. Blvd." for you own good. ;) ;D Thanks! that area is middle class, the walk to Coventry is safe.
June 8, 201213 yr Yeah, when people say Euclid, they pretty much always are refering to Euclid Ave not Euclid Heights Blvd.
June 8, 201213 yr Thanks for the clarification. When I had read your initial post about renting, I thought you had got a place in the area between Superior and Euclid Ave. The area you are renting in is much better. You have a great location. Cumberland Park and Cain Park are within spitting distance. You can walk over to Taylor Road for places like Cafe Tandoor (Indian food) and Melt (unique restaraunt specializing in 'gourmet' grilled cheese). You can walk to Coventry easily and safely down Euclid Hts Blvd and enjoy all the variety there. You can walk up to Cedar-Lee for its pubs, restaraunts, the theatre and the library. You can walk to the Rec Center (if you join) and the Mayfield-Lee area. You can even walk to Cedar-Fairmount fairly easily. You are about as centrally located as you can get in the Heights. Of course, as with any non-white picket fence neighborhood, you want to keep your wits about you. But no need to have your head on a swivel. Random violence in this neighborhood is rare.
