February 5, 201213 yr just got back from Portland/Seattle trip at the beginning of January. Enjoyed both, but didnt find anythign spectacular about Portland. Seattle on the other hand was one of the most beautiful cities weve seen. I get the funky vibe in Portland, the food, the beer...but neither my wife or i would ever leave here for there.

February 5, 201213 yr Will the REAL "UrbanSurfin" please stand up! (oh, I guess you did!). Thanks for a dynamite set of urban photos; I really appreciated the pics of the city's density and its rail. Although I'm not quite ready to trade in my beautiful Queen City for Portland, I am ready to admire (and learn from) their best ideas. A really neat city!
February 5, 201213 yr My recollection from spending some time there on a work assignment mid-1990s was that people were almost universally laid-back and friendly and the city had a very comfortable ambiance that welcomed visitors but wasn't pushy about it. I was fortunate to be there mid-summer, with sunny days and blue skies, and wish I had had more downtime to explore.
