Posted January 22, 200619 yr From the 1/15/06 NKY Sunday Challenger: PHOTO: HIGH MARKS: The sign atop the Florence water tower has gone from being free advertising for the mall to a nationally-recognized NKY landmark. File photo Towering Folklore Water Tower Raises Questions, Tales By P.F. Wilson For The Sunday Challenger [email protected] FLORENCE - It's one of the most recognizable landmarks on Interstate 75, from Canada all the way to Miami. Motorists have been driving by the peppermint striped water tower emblazed with the words "Florence Y'All" for about 30 years, but few if any know how those words ended up there. January 22, 200619 yr I find I can't drive past it without actually saying it aloud. My whole extended family lives in Kentucky/Tenesse... so I've driven past it a whole lot over the years It was the end of the face glued to the window part of our family trips... Kings Island, Downtown Cinci*CENSORED* (for your protection), Ohio River, and the Florence Y'all water tower.
January 24, 200619 yr Even today, Ewing still proudly says, "I'm Mr. Y'All." That isn't something to be proud of... You can add that word to the list of "southern" words that drive me crazy. I avoid Florence for many reasons and that awful water tower is one of them. Thank god I live north of the Ohio River. Who said that river isn't a divide ;) Downtown Cincinatti WTF? Hey man, you need to know that misspelling Cincinnati is the ultimate no-no on this board. Treat that word like it is the most important word on this board and spell it correctly.
January 24, 200619 yr Speaking of misspelling city names and myths, is there any truth to Cleveland once being spelt Cleaveland, but it was shortened to fit on the top of a newspaper? I've always heard this, but never been able to find something online.
January 24, 200619 yr if florence wants to define themselves in this kind of way, kind of like a gateway to the southern twang, then its OK with me. I do not think its a negative in any way although some people view it as such.
January 24, 200619 yr yeah, I saw that when I reread my post but evidently I didn't bother to change it. My sincere apologies to the entire city of CINCINNATI... I'm not that dense it just happens... I've misspelled Cleveland and Aurora (home town) on forums before so maybe a running trend. I usually have to reread my posts 2-3 times so as to make sure things have gone from the brain to text correctly, either spelling wise or having sentences that don't halfway become new paragraphs.
January 24, 200619 yr ^ It IS the most important word on this board. No, it isn't. "ColDayMan" is. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
January 24, 200619 yr ^ I was seriously thinking of saying that. I can't believe I've been reduced to a ColDayMan-worshipper.
January 24, 200619 yr Thanks. Good think it wasn't the Plain Dealer, then you'd only have Cleave left.
January 24, 200619 yr Never heard of this....but it's a great quirky landmark and a great story. Keep Florence weird!
