Been seeing a few instances of cash mobs lately and i think it is a great idea.  There was one in Chagrin Falls for a local hardware store a few weeks back and more recently one at Big Fun in  Coventry this week.

What are the thoughts of this forum on cash mobs?

If I tried to arrange one for the "So-Lo" shops in Ohio City (Salty not Sweet, Room Service), who would participate?

Maybe arrange the cash mob and say spend $10-$20 bucks at a store.

Thoughts?

I'm doing cleveland bridge builders and two of the three in town have been the result of planning by two of the members of this year's class. They have a blog, and a twitter feed if anyone is interested in following

@cashmobs

^ are you saying if we wanted to organize one, we should funnel any ideas through this group?  Should we independently try one?

Not saying that at all, just pointing out a couple folks who are like minded. If you want to do a cash mob on your own, I say go for it. Theys guys did it as a fun way to get some of the Bridge Buillders class together, and maybe create some awareness of a local business. As it happens, it's a concept that seems to be picking up some steam.

'Cash mob' hits Cleveland Heights' Big Fun

Cleveland Heights drew national attention last June when a 'flash mob' of unruly teens disrupted the annual Coventry Street Arts Fair, resulting in a slew of arrests and the contentious enactment of special minor curfew hours in many of the city's business districts.

Coventry Village was the site of another mob last night, but this was of the 'cash' variety.

An enthusiastic 'cash mob' gathered in front of The Grog Shop concert venue at Coventry Road and Euclid Heights Boulevard to, as organizer Andrew Samtoy said, help "get people back into the habit of supporting their local businesses."

After Samtoy announced the cash mob 'rules' - participants must spend $20 and meet three new people - the crowd of mostly 20 and 30-somethings made their way down the bustling Coventry strip to the night's target business; Big Fun Toy Store.

After the last customer was served, and the mob had made its way back up the street to La Cave Du Vin for a celebratory drink, Presser reported $1454 in sales in 75 minutes.

Noice.  Im sure the good folks in the So Lo neighborhood  would appreciate it.  I will talk it over with some of my immediate group to ensure there is at least a reasonable core interested.  At that point I will advertise here and on facebook and try to get it spread.

It actually is a fail proof activity to engage in.  Even if you get 10 people out to the store spending money, that would be considered a success.  Its all about promoting the event.  I think I will try to pitch one by the end of the weekend.  Standby.

I saw cash Mob and thought $$$$.  But after reading this I'm disappointed.
