Excellent. Extraordinarily handsome downtown.

Buffalo is one of my guilty pleasures.  Love the city.

Buffalo benefits, in an odd way, from its decline. The lack of growth over several decades saved the downtown from losing much of its fabric to make way for "progress." Like Detroit, its got a great collection of vintage skyscrapers. Nice shots.

Buffalo is Cleveland's cousin.

Buffalo is looking beautiful. :)  It's nice to see the Statler looking so well cared for.

I like Buffalo.  Lots to explore :)

Haven't been around for a while, but in the mean time you have continued to grow as a photographer. Nice job, Ink ...

Awesome stuff, thanks Ink.  Such a great blend of muscular American mid/high rise and jewel-box storefront bldgs.

Not a big deal, but for some reason I really loathe the streetscape "enhancements" that seem to be have been installed in connection with the surface portion of the light rail.  The different colored brick sidwalk strips, those white metal arch things, the occasional blue painted steal transit station and mechanical stuff and the green utility/light poles are just an awful cacophony that scream 1970s/80s "revitalization!" to me.  Just ick.

I agree with you about the streetscape enhancements that accompanied the opening of the surface portion of Buffalo's light rail line in the mid-1980s. Even by the standards of back then, I thought it all looked very cheap. It has the look of the festival-marketplace era. Now, though, there is a plan to reopen Main St. to car traffic on a block-by-block basis, so that cars and trains will travel in the same pathways. I have mixed feelings about the mixed traffic, but I'm hopeful that the opportunity will be taken to seriously reconsider the decorations. Overall, I am a longtime, ardent fan of the Buffalo subway.

Downtown Cleveland is stronger than Buffalo's downtown.  But Buffalo, like many cities, has the advantage over Cleveland in that there are no barriers (poverty/blight, East, physical (Flats/River), West) to strong neighborhoods to the north.  Allentown and Elmwood are among the most pleasant, walkable in-city neighborhoods in America.  The tend to be woven into the fabric of the city whereas, unfortunately, Cleveland's strong neighborhoods seem more like islands.

There is a big push for Main St in Buffalo to open to vehicle traffic again.  Many downtown businesses blame the lack of car access on Main St for hastening their decline.

Here's an interesting article looking at our Euclid Ave BRT for a model:

Pretty much what I was going to say.  Buffalo is awesome!  If it had the population of Cleveland, I think it would be a superior city.

Were these taken on a weekday? That's the time when lots of people are downtown. Great pictures of a great city!

^Yes, these were taken on a Thursday and Friday, I believe.

Terrific pictures of Buffalo's resurgent downtown. You caught on film many, if not most, of downtown's more interesting buildings and streetscapes. It makes me want to re-visit Buffalo again. I have taken many pictures there myself, including in neighborhoods away from downtown. If interested, go to
