March 30, 20187 yr DANG... looks like a destination: Gervasi Vineyard names distillery, hotel Updated 7:46 AM; Posted 7:45 AM By Marc Bona, cleveland.com mbonaCleveland[/member].com CANTON, Ohio - Gervasi Vineyard has named its distillery and boutique hotel, both of which are projected to be built by late 2018 to early 2019. The distillery will be called The Still House at Gervasi Vineyard, and the hotel will be The Casa at Gervasi Vineyard. The names keep in theme with its winery house, called The Crush House. (Crushing is an early and critical step in winemaking after the harvest and before fermentation.) In addition to the distillery, the 10,000-square-foot Still House - which will be on the south end of Gervasi's 55-acre estate - will feature a cigar lounge and coffee house. The distillery will open with wine-barrel-aged bourbon, whiskey, vodka, gin and select liquors and brandy. Gervasi is seeking to hire a master distiller. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2018/03/gervasi_vineyard_names_distill.html
April 1, 20187 yr Wine-barrel aging is done all the time but not in place of traditional oak aging, usually as a "finish". I am not sure if that's what they mean or if they're going to age them entirely in former wine barrels. The latter may work for brandy but I would not be surprised if the bourbons and whiskies are flushed down the drain once they taste the results (I've heard of this being tried before to not-so-good results). For now, the impression is: gimmick. It's also puzzling to me that they're not making Grappa.

April 3, 20187 yr Maybe they haven't tried good Grappa. With some marketing, I'm sure they could move bottles at the resort or at Twisted Olive. Seems like a good way to use the leftovers of their wine-making.

Seems like a good way to use the leftovers of their wine-making. "Good Grappa" that's like "jumbo shrimp", ha. I am a underwhelmed at the "hotel". Doesn't seem to be much more than the villas they already offer. Probably a more affordable price point for a room.
April 10, 20187 yr Stark County devising way to keep score of development progress By Alison Matas GateHouse Media Ohio Posted Apr 9, 2018 at 7:27 PM The document is a follow-up to “Strengthening Stark,” a report released last summer that determined the county is becoming older, poorer and less populated. The economic plan being designed to help Stark County grow its population will come with a scorecard. Nonprofit JumpStart Inc. and affiliated Innovation Economy Partners — a Cleveland-based consulting firm that provides economic impact support to communities — are developing a measurable economic development plan for Stark County. April 10, 20187 yr Canton needs a public university. Relying on UofA and Kent and community colleges isn't working.
July 2, 20186 yr Was at the stadium last night for the concert with my family. There is absolutely nothing going on there constructionwise. The stadium is still incomplete, which is just baffling.
August 2, 20186 yr I'm having trouble grasping this Market Square project. Are the city leaders so out of touch that they actually believe spending $5.5m on a block in the middle of downtown is going "reintroduce the city to the region"? It's not going to do jack. Canton's reputation doesn't hinge on one downtown parcel, but it's aging population, decaying inner ring, lack of quality education, high violent crime rate, and low property values. This project doesn't do anything but allow the leaders to say they did something, even if it's a big waste of money.
August 2, 20186 yr Is that the huge shower/waterfall thing on the previous page? Is that still moving forward?
August 2, 20186 yr Yes, but I'm not sure if the fountain is still in play. More recently they've only mentioned a "sculpture".
August 2, 20186 yr "We're so retarded we think this is art." - Mike Polk This is what I'm talking about: completely unnecessary. This is a vanity project by the leaders of the city. They want to spend $1m on a huge LED screen!

May 2, 20196 yr Haha, can't believe there are no others! I live in Columbus now but I grew up there, know it well, and I'm still up there all the time (Canton as well). June 10, 20214 yr Definitely a loss for Canton, and a questionable move for the Cavs/NBA. I somehow don't see Clevelanders going to the Wolstein Center in the shadow of Rocket Loans Arena to catch a budget, minor league version of an already struggling post-LeBron era NBA franchise. At least in Canton, there was some appeal for D-league games at the Civic Center. It was both super accessible and affordable, and made for a decent family night out. Guess it was fun while it lasted.
June 10, 20214 yr Yeah, I feel bad for Canton. I like the MLB model of having the minor league teams scattered around the minor cities in Cleveland's orbit like Akron, Eastlake, and Columbus 😉. But seriously, it's weird to have the D league right in the Cavs' shadow like that.
