Posted March 29, 201213 yr Here is the fourth part of my Chicago trip, and this is the first part of the third day (Wednesday), which includes a tour of Grant Park and the Field Museum. Here we go... Six North Michigan Avenue Building Chicago Athletic Association Building, designed by Henry Ives Cobb in 1893 Chicago Orchestra Hall at Symphony Center Metropolitan Tower, landmark building converted into luxury condominiums. Designed by architect firm Graham, Anderson, Probst, and White and built in 1924. Looking south on Michigan Avenue... Looking north at the highrises from just inside Grant Park Scenes at Grant Park... Chicago skyline with Metra trainyard in foreground. Metra trains are the Chicagoland commuter trains. More of Grant Park... The famous Buckingham Fountain, aka the "Married… with Children" fountain The Buckingham was designed by Daniel Burnham and Edward H. Bennett, dedicated in 1927, and is one of the largest fountains in the world. It operates from April to October (which is why it wasn't running today). I call this the "Married… with Children" shot... More of Grant Park... Moose that are NOT from Manitoba. Deer... Bears, I think them along with their cubs could kill the goats! ;) Polar Bears... A herd of Buffalo! Not in Buffalo. Anteaters... Cheetahs... Panda Bears in the "Mammals of Asia" exhibit in Rice Hall Bones of an Indian Rhinoceros, a Perissodactyls Zebras... Genuine artificial fake asses, ladies and gentlemens Rhinoceros, with its skin... African Antelopes... More animal skeletons... Back out to the main hallway... Penguins, you won't see many of these in Pittsburgh... Owl... Proud peacocks, maybe… Snakes and reptiles found in Chicagoland... Alligator! Inside Ancient Egypt... An old Egyptian mummy... Gigantic Penny at the "Underground" Exhibit Giant holes and roots underground... An earthworm and snail... Mole crickets, made noises! Earwig that moved, scary! Large crayfish... Giant wolf spider, YIKES! An acorn... Human Skeletons... Authentic old molten lava... Inside the plantation area... Pacific Exhibit… Grainger Hall of Gems...
March 29, 201213 yr Excellent! I haven't been in the Field Museum in many years, and had sort of forgotten how magnificent it is!
March 30, 201213 yr I haven't been there in forever. Last time I was there I was only 6 years old!!! I still remember that atrium with the arches and it smelled like formaldehyde....does it still?? This building (Montgomery Ward) is missing its hat.
