I really like this tweet photo by Joey Cassel.  The height-of-eye is just right to provide a comprehensive perspective.  Most photos shot from the west are taken from a height that makes downtown look like four tall buildings and surrounding debris. Here I can see a substantial central city even without the big four.

I was watching the trailer for the TV series ‘Gotham’ and thought I recognized the big 3 Cleveland skyscrapers in the fictional Gotham skyline! They appear on the left side.

In a WSJ article the director states the skyline was made using buildings all over the world that have a gothic aesthetic to them.

Looks like the Terminal Tower may be in there twice; look center pick.

That's the Cleveland skyline in 2030, looking north. The twin towers there on the right are at E 22 and Prospect.

It looks like the Terminal Tower overlooking the lake that is Erie got used twice, on the far left next to the other Public Square towers (height enhanced to about 900') and again towards the center.

That’s a big key.

When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

^ I liked the look of the tower without the Key on it.

I absolutely loathe those satellite dishes added to the crown of Key.

I wish they would have put a lounge/observation deck on top.  The view must be spectacular.

^why is there no observation deck in Key Tower? That would have been so popular. Did the Terminal Tower force them to sign a non-compete agreement?

Absolutely security and insurance reasons. The 57th floor was unfinished for 16 years until a law firm took up the space.

Here’s a link to some photos from the 58th floor (not an office floor, the crown has six floors of HVAC/maintenance equipment, etc.) I’ll try to dig up the photos I took back in the day.

that's too bad that never happened. I understand "security reasons," (and I guess insurance) but it isn't like new observation decks aren't a thing anymore. Hudson Yards opened The Edge recently, and there will be one atop One Vanderbilt soon.

Yes, because like rental prices, the tourism count in Cleveland is an equal comparison to New York City. 🤨 Apples to Plums?

Terminal Tower tickets are $5 a pop and open only for limited hours on weekends. Observation decks in NYC are open daily and able to command ticket prices well over $30.

I hadn't checked the prices for the NYC observatories lately, but I think they were actually higher pre-pandemic. I'm surprised Terminal Tower is only $5. I remember when Empire State was $3.50. I think the last time I was at the original World Trade Center it had gone up to $7.50. The Edge has an elaborate entrance in the mall downstairs (with a gift shop, of course) with a huge digital screen displaying a the views from the top and through the glass floor. I'm sure One Vanderbilt will have something similar. No wonder the entrance fees are so high. lol

It looks like CN Tower in Toronto is $40 CAD.   The last time I was there in the early 90s it was $10 CAD (and I thought that was outrageous).

^Probably for security reasons.  Richard Jacobs was supposed to have an office/residence on the top floor, but it never happened.  The space remained empty until 2007.

Okay - found them; although the date reads 2004, these were taken in 2002 with my old trust Minolta 140EX film camera (thus the graininess/lighting), but didn't get them uploaded until years later. A friend of @Paul in Clevelandwho worked at Key at the time managed to get us up (though we had to sign waivers not to do anything stupid 😄)

The views are indeed spectacular but the experience was also pretty scary even for someone who isn't afraid of heights. Along the edge is a raised section that doesn't even come to knee height and on the east/west facades it's pretty much a sheer drop.

The aforementioned 57th floor.

Lakewood and points west - the structures on the horizon are the steel mills in Lorain:

keytopview5.jpg

Long before every building had signage at the top:

keytopview8.jpg

Federal Courthouse was brand spanking new, Nautica didn't have the canopy, Stonebridge was under construction ... okay now I'm feeling old.

keytopview1.jpg

Looking down on Terminal Tower was quite an experience. On the left is the former Cleveland Cold Storage building, now the site of one of Cleveland's script signs and the overlook of the Scranton Flats trail.

keytopview2.jpg

Like I said, not really any kind of barrier - the small antenna looking thing is a lightning rod.

keytopview3.jpg

Now this was by far the most nervous part - see the lights in the above? I stepped past those, turned around and got down on one knee to snap this. When I stood up my legs were complete jelly and I was superglued to the wall for a few minutes:

keytopview4.jpg

"So, the rotunda is going to be a Heinens and the tower is going to be a popular hotel/apartment complex". Didn't see *that* coming!

keytopview6.jpg

Now PNC (Previously National City or Pittsburgh, Not Cleveland - take your pick):

keytopview7.jpg

No EY tower, no Pinnacle...

keytopview9.jpg

19 years later in this view, and along with thousands of others, I'd be doing my part to fight a pandemic. And Lumen would be looking pretty snazzy:

Riiiight. A W Hotel - believe it when I see it.

^ The LED streetlight conversion program really stands out here. Also, it highlights those parts of downtown yet to be done.

Very impressive photos from the Pixel 3 XL. I'll look forward to whenever you can try out the camera on your 6 Pro.

BTW. How does it work to make phone calls?  🥁

Ask and you shall receive. Not overly impressed, but the sensor on here is larger so it lets more light in naturally and I have to get used to that lol. f5b6bc30795670216fa9b67a3558bab0.jpgbc4eb80a69f48189e71a719084439b27.jpg511207c0fc14d87b2b6de3e1e926df44.jpg

I can see you didn't need much prompting!  Color palette is super nice.  I guess that could be a function of the extra light sensitivity.   Thanks a bunch & keep 'em coming, @MyPhoneDead .

Always interesting to see how many little brick structures are wedged in between lower Euclid and Prospect… especially between E.6th and Public Square…from the Beacon:

Lawd.  If I was driving, I surely would have been given a ticket...or worse.

Hydrow, the exercise rowing machine, has some stunning videos of Cleveland form the water as their instructors have done about 15 videos from Lake Erie and the Cuyahoga. It is great and free exposure for the city.

Agreed… a somewhat forgotten about building:
