This photo was taken by the Cleveland police helicopter this evening moments before the opening games of the World Series and the Cavs season.

  • I really like this tweet photo by Joey Cassel.  The height-of-eye is just right to provide a comprehensive perspective.  Most photos shot from the west are taken from a height that makes downtown look

My favorite shots of Cleveland are from the West bank of the flats at night or on the lake from an Eastern looking angle.

Personally, I feel those are the best views of the Skyline.

^My favorite angles are looking from the west (Lakewood/Edgewater area) and from the Garfield Monument at Lakeview Cemetery.  Those angles make the skyline look really balanced, with Key Tower forming a perfect peak in the center. My least favorite angle is coming from the South/Southeast. A lot of the buildings get kind of hidden from this angle, and it looks like there are only 3 skyscrapers, all spread out. The Cleveland skyline, much like Pittsburgh's, really changes depending on the angle it's being viewed from.  I also like the shots I've seen from the lake, though the closest I've been to experiencing that view first hand is from the end of the pier by the Rock Hall.

Right! I have sent those from-the-lake shots to friends and family out of town to play "Guess what city this is?"

^Never liked that shot of downtown (which ironically is my wallpaper for my phone). I just never truly cared for the design of the rock hall, it looks dated and that angle makes it seem like downtown has 3-4 buildings. My favorite shot is when you are coming 90 east heading towards 71 south. Downtown looks so dense from that angle.

I didn't shoot it. The photo credit is in the lower-right corner. But, based on the view in the photo and the 1970s-era building (EDIT: Cleveland Clinic Mellen Center) on Euclid Avenue in the foreground at left, it was probably shot from the top level of the huge Clinic parking deck between Euclid/Chester and East 90/93rd.

^Ah! I thought you took it. I see the credit now. I guess you're right on location--looks like those new townhomes between Euclid and Chester in the 80s in the foreground. Thanks.

Great mage of Public Square. The only issue is that the new crosswalk configuration shows how little sense was made to the Field Operation's original layout.

I hope this solution gets fine tuned .  Also I am amazed how The Downtown Hilton disappears at night. It took me a while to see it's outline.

Cool pic. It just makes me hate sodium vapor lights all that much more. Public Square is bright and vibrant while all the other sidewalks are dingy and dark.

Was in CLE yesterday for Pride, and the weather and city were sparkling and spectacular. Took just a couple of phone pictures, which didn't do the scene justice.

Or if they panned left a little, it could include the construction scene for Centric. I guess the point is, UC is growing enough that it would take several different vantage points to photograph everything. And hopefully UC3 will get underway soon which will make for multiple-focal-point CBD generally along Euclid.

Hard to believe that a decade ago, Uptown's location was a bunch of surface parking lots adjacent to a few historic residences and a couple bland, set-back-from-the-street mid-rise apts... Now it's blossomed into one of my fave neighborhoods in all of the CLE.

Plus the former Mi Pueblo restaurant is still in the photo not yet replaced by the narrow apt building that is currently nearly completed.

Last Sunday I went on a ride on a friend's boat up the ol' Cuyahoga. It was the first time this far up the river (every time I've ever been on Goodtime, we've had to turn around because of a freighter coming down).  A couple quickie shots I took with my phone

^You know what would really make that picture perfect.  A skyscraper on the Jacobs PS lot which has been surface parking for almost 25 years now.  Such an embarrassment for such a prime location.  OK end of rant.

Visiting The Behemoth (the 30,000-employee main campus of the Cleveland Clinic) near University Circle. Pedestrianism is alive but not well at the Cleveland Clinic. It's just not on the sidewalks the way any normal, healthy city would have it....

I would cut the Clinic some slack on these ped bridges though.

I would cut the Clinic some slack on these ped bridges though.

Yeah that was my first thought.  In Cleveland, perhaps they would prefer the sick people not have to go outdoors.

I do find it kind of dumb that they hide the stairs and expect people to take (disease farm) elevators down one or two levels, though.

I know this ship has sailed and this topic has been discussed to death, but that image really shows how damaging the road through the square is. It's more like two public rectangles than one cohesive public square.

Don't you dare say that to Cleveland Scene!!! Don't you know that road saves 3 minutes and 27 seconds on bus-riders commutes??!!!
