July 27, 20222 yr Nice pics! But the first shot looking down Euclid is troubling in that there is zero traffic. It's not just Cleveland though. I've noticed that many, many cities (outside of the obvious NY, LA, SF and a few others) have little to no traffic. It's a sign of life, or lack thereof I guess. Kinda spooky. What's worse than heavy traffic? Uh...no traffic.

People I have noticed, especially the younger population, are definitely home bodies staying in, ordering for delivery, working and leaving in the evening for bars. Leaving to go to a store, or pickup food or walk to work seems very taboo now in an Era of "all things brought to you". Something I've noticed with the population increase in DT Cleveland, less foot traffic than before.

It's almost the great debate wrt architectural pics: people in them or no? I always leaned towards no. Distracting in the pic, distracting to the photographer.

There was a trend away from eating in public before the virus came around, it merely accelerated in 2020. The places that survived and thrived are the ones that adapted to takeout and even delivery, including pricing their food to make a profit on it, not just drinks.
August 15, 20222 yr I wasn't too sure where to post this link, so if someone has a thread it would fit better in, let me know. But this twitter account goes around downtown tweeting pictures of burnt out or non-working lights. I swear I have had this idea for quite awhile now, so kudos to this person for actually doing it. I always thought the city should create a job(s) whose main purpose is to address this issue. I'm sure we have all noticed these around town and got a little bummed out.
August 24, 20222 yr A handful of new public art going up in the Metro Corridor. This has been my favorite so far.
September 10, 20222 yr Took some pictures in Uptown yesterday and in my opinion the Uptown section of University Circle does a better job of creating an urban space for all. Students, workers, tourists and even commuters than Downtowns Euclid Corridor implementation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
September 12, 20222 yr ^ Best thing about those pics? Actual life out there. I may hate traffic in a big city but in Cleveland...it's a pleasure.

September 24, 20222 yr I recall being mixed feelings when this complex was built, but it was really grown on me over the years. I'd vote it has aged really well. The copper-tiled roofs continue to look cooler every year. Every fall I hear opposing team's players and fans compliment the facility. Even the fall sports teams--women's soccer, football, and men's soccer--have been ranked in the top 25 most years recently, probably a direct link to this complex serving as a top notch recruiting tool. Some DIII facilities are like a field with some bleachers for those who have been to away game... Cherry on top is the nod to history with the Steve Belichick Varsity Weight Room, gifted by Bill Belichick in honor of his father...and the Coach Bill Edwards president's suite (winningest coach in CWRU history and Bill's godfather)

November 8, 20222 yr Great pic of the Blood Moon from Gabe Wasylko. It took me a minute to figure out that the thing looking like a blue crown on the Beacon was the City Club crane. When is the last time I-71 turned a profit?

February 28, 20232 yr Some even more incredible shots here: https://www.cleveland19.com/2023/02/27/northern-lights-spotted-northeast-ohio/ Love the purple one. I'd never even heard of it reaching this far south. I seriously hope another one hits in slightly warmer weather, and on a weekend so I can take the kids and let them stay up ridiculously far past their bedtimes.

Some of those amenities are less than a 10 minute walk away and you don't have to cross a 8 lane road to get to them as you traverse the residential portion of the neighborhood.

Maybe walkable is the wrong word. But to me its not a great neighborhood as you cannot walk out of your bldg and grab a meal or a drink on the street. To me a great neighborhood has street-level retail where you don't have to walk 10 minutes (and through a giant parking lot) to get to it.
March 18, 20232 yr Well I suppose it depends on the zoning. Street level retail might not be permitted in some residential areas.

March 19, 20232 yr ^I was planning to go to that restaurant. Very bummed to learn they closed. Anyone know why they closed?
March 19, 20232 yr Author @ProspectAve Lake House close a couple of years ago. You'd think it was because of the pandemic. But we knew one of the employees who lives in the building next to ours and he said the owner fell in love and has spent lots of time traveling together. She had no time for the restaurant. Several of us considered buying the restaurant from her, but she never responded to our phone calls. We were going to do an Eastern European restaurant and my wife, who's an amazing cook, was going to be the head chef. But she cooked up several dozen meals for a Ukrainian fundraiser last year and decided being a restaurant chef wasn't for her! From where I live on Clifton (12000 block), within a 15-minute walk, I have three grocery stores, two convenience stores, many restaurants (one is 24-hours), fast-food joints, a many bars, a Starbucks, juice bar, several banks/ATMs, two 24-hour drug stores, a Discount Drug Mart, a second-hand clothing store, a second-hand furniture store, three bus routes (one is 24 hours), three barber shops, a nail salon, two dry cleaners, two fitness centers, a city hall/police station/polling place, an elementary school, a middle school, a high school and a college.
