  • Figured it was a good time to get back to things that make me happy, like photography.

  • How's this for a great photo? Love that density! Love the canyon effect! Love those cranes!

  • I really like this tweet photo by Joey Cassel.  The height-of-eye is just right to provide a comprehensive perspective.  Most photos shot from the west are taken from a height that makes downtown look

That very last shot is awesome! Really shows the scale of Waterford Bluffs and the Scranton projects

Miles Park fire this morning... I am still confused as to how the roof slid off the top before the fire. It was one of the more unique churches that I've photographed.60305AFF-7DBF-49D6-A5AA-0CC3A2E98ADF.thumb.JPEG.d27763fc50d961f58b1f71e21cd49bc0.JPEG

Heartbreaking when we lose these significant structures. Nothing like it will ever be built again.

Roof collapsed in 2020 and the church has been vacant since...

So many beautiful old churches in Cleveland have been destroyed by fire over the years.  St Agnes on Euclid at E 80th and St Joseph on Woodland are two that come to mind.  I'm sure there were others.

Were you there Sherman?

Looks like the windows weren't salvaged either. Just unfathomable amounts of wasted craft and materials.

Still here. I was shooting with the drone about 1 PM when it rekindled and had to pull back while they put out new hotspots. Crews are working to turn off utilities and such. I suspect an emergency demolition will be done very soon.

I'm passing through en route from New York to upstate Michigan. I stayed overnight outside of Cleveland and got a ping on a feed I follow for fires. I came down around 8:30 AM and sent the drone up - keeping a far distance from first responders and shooting with the tele. I'll post up some new shots in a few.

I haven't edited my photos from last year's visit, but here are some iPhone photos. The columns had shifted, which I suspected had destabilized the roof, leading to it sliding off into the street.

Thanks for the photos! water intrusion did it in. Was certainly salvageable at one point, just no economic return for doing so.

Gabe is so good at this:

@MayDay  Sweet pics, but OH NO!  Some competitor will see these and try to hire you away from UO.    The Board should step in to pre-empt what could be a nasty bidding war.   🤞

There was an old post card describing E. 6th from Euclid to Superior as the "Grand Canyon of Cleveland."

Unenhanced sunrise view from my condo balcony yesterday morning. Not sure how many more of these were gonna have. We're considering buying a house. Anyone want a 2-bedroom condo that's within walking distance of many stores, restaurants and 24-hour transit??

I've said it before and I'll say it again:  whoever made the decision at LTV to hot idle those furnaces deserves a statue.   If they had been cold idled it's doubtful they would have ever been brought back, and this area would be a blight instead of an economic engine.

For sure.   We can do a drone tour of Bethlehem Steel just outside of Buffalo and see what that looks like.   Truly sad.

Or their Bethlehem plant.    Or plenty of places in Youngstown.
