February 7, 20169 yr Author Wow, everyone must be outside on this warm, sunny February day in Ohio! I've never seen UO so quiet. I just returned from an afternoon stroll in my neighborhood. A few pics.... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
February 7, 20169 yr Author Might as well share some from my stroll through Lakewood's Gold Coast after dinner at El Jalepeno's on Friday night. I think the apartment waiting lists downtown and lack of for-sale housing there is spilling over to the Gold Coast and causing a tight market here. I'm seeing more real estate transactions, fewer "for rent" signs and more moving vans being unloaded in my 'hood... Hope you enjoyed! February 7, 20169 yr Author The next morning, here's a few from the seventh-floor of my building where the party room, pool and sun deck are. The views start out by looking north toward the lake (which you can see between some of the Gold Coast high rises). Downtown Cleveland is about 5-6 miles to the east.... That's all folks! February 8, 20169 yr Author Cleveland Police shared this view on Twitter, taken from their police helicopter over the weekend... February 9, 20169 yr At first it looked like it was shot from the Solstice Steps in Lakewood. I took one of those about a half hour earlier. Well, not technically from the Solstice Steps, because you can't see the skyline from there.

March 9, 20169 yr Author From today's 75-degree day.... Arriving downtown on the #55 Drury Hotel renovations Going for a stroll on the malls on March 8 -- and loving it! Statue in the "Fountain of Eternal Life" surrounded by Terminal Tower and Key Tower. The fountain, in Mall A, was shut off for winter but workers were cleaning in preparation for turning it back on soon. April 11, 20169 yr It's funny looking at recent abnormally warm pics in this thread and then ending with an April snowstorm. It looks like the Great Lakes have lived up to their unpredictable weather reputation this year haha...

April 15, 20169 yr I went to school with the guy that took the first half of the photos, pretty cool. Great photo set.
April 16, 20169 yr Author Wow, I'm surprised I forgot to post this. I took this photo this past winter from the inside of a #55 Cleveland State Line RTA bus going through Public Square. The windows were dirty from all the road salt, but the sun was out and we were just passing Terminal Tower. I happened to be sitting on one of the seats in the bus that had "Cleveland" stenciled on the outside of my window. It also has the stenciled names of the other cities the Cleveland State Line serves. So I reversed the image (because Terminal Tower looks the same if it's reversed), made it black and white and cropped it. I couldn't help but have the stop-request pull-chord in the shot. So here it is... "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

I sent him the pictures and his mind is blown.

Those are really cool pictures. Thanks for posting. I was just telling my son about the fact that there's a giant mine under Lake Erie, and he couldn't believe it. I sent him the pictures and his mind is blown. I wasn't sure if salt mines still existed around Fairport. I remember there were some abandoned salt mines near my old neighborhood, which were on the perimeter of the old Diamond Shamrock property. There were little white buildings with peeling paint and rusted fixtures that were the entrances to the mines. This was in the 60's, but they looked unused for decades even back then. I thought the salt from those mines had been exhausted, or worse, contamination from the Diamond might have seeped into them. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

August 9, 20168 yr ^ Love it. That riverwalk looks really sharp. It does, but it will never reach its potential unless there's a larger plan for expansion. Boardwalks have to be connectors; they don't really function as isolated spots.
August 9, 20168 yr I would hope they are FAA licensed flying that high up at the end of the Burke runways!
August 9, 20168 yr ^ Love it. That riverwalk looks really sharp. It does, but it will never reach its potential unless there's a larger plan for expansion. Boardwalks have to be connectors; they don't really function as isolated spots. I hear what you're saying, but I don't see the boardwalk realistically being extended to the south -- Coastal Taco, which has been highly successful if we're to judge by sheer patronage -- is directly in its path and to build it through there would totally wreck Coastal's deck seating view, which is a major gem for the restaurant. Coastal would fight it and, frankly, I don't think I'd like it either. I'm cool with the Boardwalk as it is. People seem to love it. What the area needs is to reboot the now-vacant clubs and buildings from the old Flats entertainment district, including the old Watermark Restaurant building... and I still believe Samsel hardware should sell, relocate and turn it's substantial building over for apartments...

Here's a simple solution though....simply bring the boardwalk along the sidewalk on Old River Road. There you go.
September 15, 20168 yr Does anyone has a picture of casual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum? Wonderful understanding of all that brought Rock & Roll into expression. I only had 3 days to visit different places of the city, this was amazing and so quickly. This is a don't miss if you are in Cleveland, my old computer crashed and went with it all my photos :drunk:
