May 2, 201213 yr Ugh, I'm hate how successful this has become. I had Elizabeth Diller as a guest professor during my undergrad and she had us do guerrilla architecture projects where we went out in the middle of the night and built stuff on blighted property. I refused the project and it turned into a big issue where I threatened to sue the school. Ultimately it lead to an undergraduate degree in Architecture that taught me more about the law than was necessary. She may be talented, but she's a miserable human being.
May 3, 201213 yr Great photos. I don't think anyone could have imagined how important design and material selection were to this project. It's really unlike anything else and I think the designers involved really nailed it on the first try. Look how well the railroad's original railings and rivets work. If this thing had been from the post-rivet era, and especially if it had been concrete, I don't think it would have near the appeal that it does.
