May 8, 201213 yr One of America's most unique neighborhoods. Great stuff. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
May 10, 201213 yr Thank you ZachariahDaMan, This has always been my favorite urban neighborhood in Ohio. I've only driven through the area, but from the first time I encountered this area, it has always held a special place in my mind. I have a brick fetish and German Village is like nirvana. The photo of the stone faced buildings weaved into brick sides is insanely gorgeous - thank you for capturing and sharing this one! I'm curious if any active Urban Ohio members live in German Village. It strikes me as such an idealistic urban neighborhood - is it as good as it looks? Sincerely, New World Techno Boy
May 10, 201213 yr thanks for the pictures. I love German Village. I lived in that building next to Wendy's on High St. (are both of them still there??) in the mid-70's for one year (though I know it's technically not in German Village) when it was an inexpensive walk-up (don't think it still is), sort of like New York (I haven't come very far in 35 years!). lol. http://www.mainstreetpainesville.org/

Sincerely, New World Techno Boy I live in german village and love it. In some ways its probably better than it looks in that its not just a historical area but a real neighborhood with very friendly and interesting people who you get to know. Its funny because I think sometimes tourists are dissapointed that people actually live here and not every street corner has polka bands and huge beer steins. One thing that I think some people fail to realize that although it is expensive to buy in the neighborhood it really isn't bad to rent.Schumacher place ,Brewery District, and Merion village which are next to german village are also cheaper to buy in and will allow you to have the benefits of german village as well. I've lived in alot of places in the US and this is by far my favorite for alot of reasons.
May 13, 201213 yr Bought our first house there in 1995 on Sycamore St. Small wood frame house that needed a bunch of work. We had a blast fixing it up...met some great people and really loved living down there. Left in 2000 and came here. Nothing really bad to say about the village...IMHO it could use some more dynamic retail options and a bit more foot traffic...keep in mind this was when the Brewery District was a happening place...I think the Arena District has taken some of the luster away from this part of the city. I was always pleasantly surprised as to how safe and quiet it was - in general.
