Posted May 16, 201213 yr Here the the 7th (Day 4, Part 2) and final part of my great Chicago trip of Winter 2012. This part takes me through Old Town, Old Town Triangle, and the Gold Coast, as well as scenes from around United Center for my second Blackhawks game and other areas. Without further ado, here we go with the last part of my Chicago trip! The amazing St. Michael's Church in the Old Town Triangle District, Roman Catholic Church built in 1869, survived the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, but was heavily damaged. Was also the tallest building in Chicago from 1869 until 1885, when the Chicago Board of Trade building was built (now demolished) Looking up... Front Entrance A place where I would assume the minister of the church might live... Victorian houses in the Old Town Triangle District... Various scenes from around Old Town Triangle... Old Town was settled by Germans in th 1850s and was also where a lot Puerto Picans lived during recent times and is one of the best preserved neighborhoods in the city. Old Town Market Building Nice little square... Former St. Michael's Central High School in Old Town St. Michael's High School and Church The Uniqueness of the house on the left is amazing... North Avenue in Old Town... Chicago Historical Museum Houses in Chicago's Gold Coast, just north of the Near North Side... this area grew after the Chicago fire. It is considering the second most affluent neighborhood in the United States behind only the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. The Gold Coast Historic District, featuring a fine collection of mansions, townhouses, and apartment buildings... Archibishop Mansion Scary thing is that in this building, an autistic boy tell from the 47th floor to his death, tragic. I heard on the Chicago news this trip This house is significant, because it is the house featured on the sitcom, "Webster" which took place in Chicago... from the second season on... North end of Michigan Avenue, including the Drake Hotel and Palmolive Building... Back on the Magnificent Mile HOPE statue near the John Hancock Center, a compliment to the LOVE statue in Philly, which I have also seen in my travels. Yours Truly wearing a Blackhawks shirt as a result of the Red Wings losing Tuesday night... Dinner that night @ McCormick and Schmick's Seafood Restaurant For some reason, I loved the interior of this place... probably because of its high ceilings... Very fine seafood... Shrimp, Lake Michigan Salmon, and Asparagus... Dessert... delicious Oreo Cookie pie with Peanut Butter and Chocolate/Caramel drizzling... After dinner, passed by the Quigley Preparatory Seminary... Amazing building... Grand Red Line Station Red Line Subway Transfer tunnel to the Blue Line Dearborn subway at Jackson Jackson Blue Line Station... Took the Blue Line to the Illinois Medical District, which stopped near this historic building the former Cook County Hospital... This building is famous because it has been seen in the 1993 film "The Fugitive", on "Punky Brewster", and was also the setting for the television drama, "ER". This fine Beaux Arts building was built 1912 and currently sits vacant, awaiting redevelopment into offices... Side shot of the entrance... Rush Children's Hospital and Medical Center District United Center Logo of an ENEMY team, but I am wearing its shirt.. Arena concourse... My seat, second row from the Dallas bench... Scoreboard, btw, on the bottom you can see the horn that blares every time the Blackhawks score and you can't believe how loud that is from down there, it's incredible... Stanley Cup championship banners... Madhouse on Madison... Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen's numbers retired... those were the days when I was a big MJ fan and Chicago Bulls fan, too bad they wouldn't win this year thanks to a freak injury to Derrick Rose... Teams coming out on to the ice... Opening faceoff... Patrick Kane (88) of the Blackhawks Brent Seabrook (7) and, GRRR, Marian Hossa (81) Dave Bolland (36) and goalie Corey Crawford Zambonis clearing the ice Intermission Start of the second period... Duncan Keith Michael Ryder and Steve Ott on the Dallas bench Blackhawks score! Marian Hossa got the goal to make it 1-0 for the Blackhawks. Chicago Bears linebacker Lance Briggs taking shots from center ice during the intermission... Third period opening faceoff... Dallas scored early to tie the game at 1... Stars scored again to take the lead for good in the game... 2-1 Stars... Dallas added another goal to seal the deal, 3-1... Dallas played well in the third and their goaltender helped immensely. Shame for the Blackhawks, played a marvellous first two periods. First time this year they lost when leading after two... ARGH! Oh well... Back to the blue line, on Ogden Ave aka Historic Route 66... Waiting for the train... Here comes the train, approaching Illinois Medical District, took me to the Red Line @ Jackson and to my hotel! On my final day, before I left back for Detroit, got a picture of the base of the Allerton hotel... Old Historic Union Station... Entrance to the current Union Station, before I headed back to Detroit... Hope you all enjoyed the final part of my tour!

May 17, 201213 yr Thanks! Your hood, eh? Which one? Now I am glad that I took pictures there! Although I am missing an important building in the Gold Coast designed by Louis Sullivan and Frank Lloyd Wright, the James Charnley House. Oh well, I'll get it next time! The Gold Coast is absolutely amazing.

Interestingly (and sadly) FLW's "love nest" in the Gold Coast was demolished a few months ago after the foundations failed from nearby construction. BTW, despite that I'm a Detroit fan, I admit to owning a blackhawks shirt.

BTW, despite that I'm a Detroit fan, I admit to owning a blackhawks shirt. I'm in shock you've managed to secure an apartment in this neighborhood! As they say, there goes the neighborhood!
