Feels like those manage to make it much more than 10 years before having to be ripped out and redone. Well what you don't hear about those pools and waterparks is the constant huge headache they are to maintain. I use to inspect pools and the biggest ones would go down for huge maintenance issues all the time. The two biggest I inspected both leaked and were run by the YMCA. We had no authority to shut them down where I was an inspector but the City of Columbus inspectors do have that authority and use it liberally every Summer. They also only inspect pools here once per year though where they are generally inspected 6 or more times in most other places. Another reason why you don't hear too much about big pool issues, it's easy to hide them for the 90 minutes a year the inspector is there. They also rotate the inspectors so frequently in the city that they never get a chance to really learn about the pools they are checking out and might miss entire pump rooms or other support features if the pool operator knows to not mention them. February 13, 20232 yr I do kind of wish they would keep 5 towers. Even if they aren't all operational, the 5 felt substantial from a scultpural standpoint and full whereas the 3 seems a little sparse. Or maybe a few other similar elements that give it height and fullness when all that's on is lights.
February 23, 20232 yr Repairs and New Features Planned for Scioto Mile Fountain Plans for a $15 million overhaul of the Scioto Mile Fountain will be presented to the Downtown Commission next week. The project is being spearheaded by the Columbus Downtown Development Corporation and will be funded by that organization and the City of Columbus, which has committed $7.5 million to the effort. Plans submitted to the city in advance of the February 28 commission meeting show new elements like a shaded seating area and space for food trucks, as well as upgrades and repairs to the fountain itself and the plaza it sits on, which will be re-graded to improve drainage. Also planned is a special section for younger children. Legislation to fund the city’s portion of the project that was approved by city council last fall described planned “sculptural light elements with vibrant, constantly changing colors [that] will delight visitors with dynamic light shows in the cold-weather season to make the Scioto Mile Fountain a year-round destination.” More below: https://columbusunderground.com/repairs-and-new-features-planned-for-scioto-mile-fountain-bw1/ "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers

Would keep things quite interesting.

If you're referring to the vertical metal beams, those are supports for shade canopies (to the upper right of the fountain). If you're referring to the "halo" rings, those are part of the fountain.

May 21, 20241 yr Snatched a couple quick ones while I was leaving Milestone 229 earlier- Not the best pics since it was dark- but the difference from before to now is pretty impressive. One thing I noticed when walking up to it is even though there's two less halos, it feels much bigger than the first version This thing is beautiful and I have a feeling it will be very popular
May 21, 20241 yr FUN FOUNTAIN FACTS AND UPDATES The enhanced Scioto Mile Fountain spans 15,000 square feet and holds 35,000 gallons of water in an underground reservoir. Opening on Memorial Day weekend, it’s a debut you won’t want to miss! The interactive fountain will remain open throughout the summer and the upgrades are impressive! Here are a few fun facts about the fountain renovations: • The masterminds behind the reconstructed fountains, a California-based design firm WET, also designed the fountains in front of the Bellagio and the dancing fire and water fountain in Dubai. No two fountains they create are alike. • The new fountains are interactive, using Weplay technology to personalize your experience. Lights, music, and water engage and interact with visitors. • The water jets have LED lights that will flow with the trajectory of the water, and separate fog canisters that flow with lights. • There are twelve 10-foot speakers that are synced with music and lights and create a sophisticated surround sound atmosphere. • There are 344 fountain sprites lit by self-contained LED lights. • There are three stainless steel halo structures that have 300 fog nozzles. High powered fans underneath the largest one have the capacity to create a vortex-like reaction. • The blossom fountain has 90 tubes, and its super shooter can catapult water 120 feet. • You can also enjoy the fountains after summer is over. Sculptural light elements will allow for vibrant, constantly changing colors with dynamic light shows in the cold-weather season.
May 22, 20241 yr Looks great! Let's hope the city can maintain it properly this time. Fountains are a lot of constant work to keep in good condition
May 24, 20241 yr Finishing touches on the fountain ahead of today's reopening Crews were testing different parts of the fountain late last night. I can't imagine these speakers are louder than the concerts they've had over there. They already got the city to adopt hours and limit concerts once. If they have complaints, it will be entertained by the city. The new public play hours for the plaza fountains and events are slightly shorter than they were before the renovation as well. Nothing will stop them from complaining about it and trying to defeat it's entire purpose. They have historically also tried to get the city to change races for their noise complaints. The speakers are positioned in a way that it's pretty loud when you're near the fountain, but once you leave the fountain area, you can barely hear it. I don't think it will be a problem.
July 17, 2024Jul 17 Gorgeous view of the fountains while having a delicious lunch at Milestone 229. It was earlier in the day when the photo was taken but more kids and families showed up to enjoy the fountains, which was great to see.
