August 14, 201212 yr PBS looked better right when it was built. Some of the exterior surfaces have started weathering which has dulled its appearance.
August 14, 201212 yr What I do know is that Heinz Field cost significantly less to build and IMHO they got a much better product out of it. We constructed one of the most expensive open-air NFL stadiums in history (after Met Life Stadium: NYG, NYJ and Lincoln Financial Field: Eagles) and it is an "average" facility with no flair. Unfortunately it is very difficult to actually pin down construction costs because numbers range from $330 M to $1 B depending on who you ask*. Officially it is recognized as $455 Million. *The low estimate of $800 by Bob Bedinghaus and $62 Trillion by Tom Luken have been eliminated as anomalies. I think PBS is much nicer, architecturally. I think what you're describing with the decorations and whatnot is more a function of Mike Brown being a tightwad than anything else. Most of that stuff could have been improved or added over the last 10 years, but that hasn't happened.

We constructed one of the most expensive open-air NFL stadiums in history (after Met Life Stadium: NYG, NYJ and Lincoln Financial Field: Eagles) and it is an "average" facility with no flair. Before we anoint Heinz Field the king of the 10 year old stadiums, keep in mind Heinz's major design flaw that cannot be corrected. Heinz is a frigid wind tunnel. Whoever designed it failed to properly account for the path of wind through its open end zone. It gets mighty cold in that stadium. The Great Hall looks nice, but it is essentially just some banners and cheap Lombardi Trophy replicas. That little bit of flair doesnt make up for the fact that PBS is just better architecturally, and is not a freaking wind tunnel. So the banners and tin trophy's in the Great Hall aside, I think that PBS is a better product.
August 14, 201212 yr ^Besides, it's not like you can decorate PBS with Lombardi trophy replicas when you don't have any to replicate.

August 14, 201212 yr On the topic of Stadiums and the Spittsburgh, Pa. Who is looking forward to Sep. 6 and going to watch, @Nippert, the Bearcats kick sand up a s s of the Pitt Panthers. Thursday Night primetime ESPN game. Nippert is a great venue, and hopefully UC will soon add in more restrooms and maybe some concessions. I sit on the East Side which has a wider concourse area.
