On June 30, Abandoned will be hosting a Ohio State Reformatory tour for photographers. It is a come-as-you-please event, meaning that you can wander all about the 250,000 square-foot facility and shoot as many photographs as you want.

 

The location is in Mansfield, Ohio, about an hour south of Cleveland and an hour north of Columbus along Interstate 71. Map

 

 

Amateurs and professionals are all welcome to attend!

 

The cost is $75 per person for 4 hours, from 9 AM to 1 PM. The gates open at 8:30 AM. The cost, which has been discounted 50% for this event, goes towards the restoration of the facility which is evident in many of the rooms that you will pass through.

I just played baseball in the front yard of that place Sunday.  We lost to a team with 2 children on it, but it was a great time.  Tons of tourists.

Wow. And with just less than one day being up, we've hit the half way mark on registrations. I'll have to schedule in more events!

The last time I went to an event organized by Sherman the guy doing the tour tried to jack up the price when we arrived. He eventually settled on what he originally promised and we all took photos in front of a wall that had "thug life" graffitied on it.

LOL Well, this is a run by a professional organization. And the last six events have been more than legit and not paying off a guy to open the door for us :)

Very interested - I have a wedding that day, but might be able to do this in the morning.

Update: It is currently at the 2/3 mark for registrations. I will be requesting a second date for photographers for later this year, and will schedule events at Weston State Hospital in West Virginia and at the Lonaconing Silk Mill in western Maryland. Other events are in the works as well, so stay tuned.

MUCH thanks to those who attended the event! The weather was actually overcast and chill that morning - especially after a violent storm moved through the day prior, and temperatures were reasonable that entire day! Based on the feedback I received from the event handlers at Ohio State Reformatory, more events are definitely in the works.
