Posted June 26, 201212 yr This will be a half introductory post, half thanks post. We live in Euclid and were after a larger home, more space. We spent a ton of time looking in Cleveland Heights and Shaker Heights. Then we found and immediately fell in love with a gorgeous, timeless, HUGE house on East blvd. Across the street are the Lithuanian and Grecian Cultural Gardens. Seeing it in person really pushed it over the edge. This house is a stunner. I started to do a little internet checking up on the neighborhood. I wasn't getting much until I found the proper neighborhood names. I say "names" as the house is technically in St. Clair-Superior but ridiculously close to being in Glenville. I have to admit, it was a little scary to see some of the (mostly) forum posts I read. To the point of almost forgetting about the house. But I just can't. And I began browsing the threads here instead and they are honest without being negative for the sake of being negative. So thanks for that. In about a months time, I'll actually be living in the awesomest house I've ever seen. And shortly after that, I'll be removing the attack of the 1970's and 1980's found inside :-D What's funny is the house is actually photographed in this thread: http://www.urbanohio.com/forum2/index.php/topic,18871.msg384005.html#msg384005
June 26, 201212 yr Congrats on your purchase and you are exactly right, you will have a unique home that has so much beuaty. Cant find that in Twinsburg. Here is my take, I live in the city in a west side neighborhood. My advice is just to put yourself in smart positions. I dont go wandering about in the middle of the night, i would advise the same for you. When you go out (really close to University Circles emerging district), be on a bike or car and keep your focus forward. You will undoubtedly see an unwelcoming character walking by at some point, but chances are they wont bother you. Establish a presence in your neighborhood, get a security system on your home and enjoy. Promote the heck out of your neighborhood, make sure to get involved and be a part of the solution. Congrats!

I have several relatives that live just off East Blvd. What exactly bothers you? What do you want to know?
June 26, 201212 yr Thanks BelievelandD1, my thoughts mirror your own very closely! I'm eager (and ready) for a change of scenery. MyTwoSense, nothing bothered me about the area when I saw it, like I said... it's impressive looking to say the least! I did some research as I wanted to better put together, in my head, a visual of what the area might be like without having anyone I could ask that may have personal experience. I came across a lot of forums that had generalizations and not much else, and I try not to get swept up in that kind of thing. I read through many posts on this forum and have seen a lot of your posts and I can tell you are fond of the area. It was nice to read firsthand accounts from people who actually have an idea of what the neighborhood is like! I don't really have any specific questions, I suppose. I plan to get in there and get to know my neighbors. My current neighbors are all friendly and it makes living in any place that much more peaceful if you can talk to the people around you. I have noticed so many of the residents there are long-timers. Part of the reason I'm so amped up about this place is I think it's an opportunity, given the house itself and the area, that won't present itself again anytime soon.
June 26, 201212 yr That's great to hear! Let's hope moves like this continue. There are many homes that could use just a little TLC and be amazing homes.
June 26, 201212 yr Congrats on the new home! I've always enjoyed looking up at those houses when driving down MLK. True architectural gems in that area.

Definitely a lot of long time residents! Its such a beautiful area and you will have access to so much! Hopefully you'll take us along for the ride on your renovation. hint..hint (pictures)
June 26, 201212 yr That stretch of East Blvd where your house is located is pretty safe. In the past 3 months, there has not even been once reported crime. East Blvd as a whole also has very good stats. Only 3 minor, non violent crimes on the northern end of the street and a few others in those ugly buildings just north of Wade Park, nothing serious though. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new house! And for the neighborhood to the East of you, most of the violent crime is domestic violence. So again, nothing that would really involve you.
June 27, 201212 yr Congrats! Is that the brick home shown at: http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k3/drdamwi/eastblvdandglenville012.jpg BTW, I've never spent much time on East Boulevard. I don't think I've seen the cultural gardens from that street. The Italian, Greek and Lithuanian gardens are even more attractive from East Blvd than they are along MLK. June 27, 201212 yr Thanks for the encouragement and congratulations, jjames0408, MuRrAy HiLL and Hts121! ClevelandOhio... Thank you for digging up the last 3 months of reported crime there. I appreciate that. MyTwoSense, pictures? It's like you read my mind. KJP, yup... that's the house, all right! I had a feeling it was the house when I first found it here on the forum and I compared the pictures and sure enough, same house. I've also found it in old photos of the Cultural Gardens and that area from the Cleveland Memory Project. I love this house and I love geeking out on local history and stuff, so what a perfect marriage this is for me.

In spring and Summer there is always a wedding party taking pictures at the Italian Garden. My Grandfather, my fathers brothers all proposed to their wives at the gardens
July 9, 201212 yr Congrats! Great homes and great area. One of my favorite residential areas in the city along with the nearby Wade Park/Ashbury area. You're definately right about this opportunity not coming too often. Those homes are held onto for a long time and probably passed down for generations because they rarely seem to hit the market. Despite all the generalizations that you've heard, which is often made by people that don't know anything about the area, you're in a quiet, well kept and safe area which remains constant until 102nd. 99th for the streets between pierpont(or adams) and superior. I believe someone above me eluded to it already but even the nearby 105 area isn't as bad as made out to be. There are many well kept streets their also with good neighbors as well, that just get overshadowed by a few bad apples. Great investment, in my opinion. The value of your area is only going to go further up as the University Circle/Wade Park areas continues to build on their strong foundations and inevitably more commercial development should creep further north. Enjoy!
