Listen, s**t on me all you want, but there is a skyline changing hotel coming and Ken knows about it too. Just too early to report. I'm not one to give false info, nor do i make up bulls**t.

I don't think it requires believing that you are personally unreliable to be skeptical of big vision plans in our town.  They have a way of not happening after years of talk.

now this, this is wut we lurk for around here — a nucleus bomb — 🙀

Soooo is it possible we can have a little bit of insight of what’s to come on the nucleus site I’m just so anxious. I’m looking at other cities that are constantly going vertical and I want that to be us aswell. I mean y not us right?

Why be so anxious? How will it change your life or our lives and, more importantly, why?

It won't. In fact the big projects are fun to daydream about. But it's the small infill projects that do happen far more often that truly change the fabric of this city.

Exactly.....just look at the Scranton Peninsula development. I never thought I would live to see that happen. But there it is!!

Agreed. It’s like infill housing is your daily meals that keep you healthy, and the skyscrapers are the delicious desert that all of your friends marvel at after dinner.

When I’m in Dubai, I always try to catch a photo of this building from the highway.  It makes me think of what Nucleus probably would’ve looked like.

Because of the way the windows sink in and protrude from the design.

I know it was mentioned a dispensary may be going into the Record Rendezvous spot a few months ago, and it looks like that was made official now. I'm happy to see something finally moving into those buildings, and I hope it brings a few other businesses.

I had hoped with the resurgence of record sales in the last decade that somehow another record store could have gone in its place, but I'm guessing the economics on a decent sized Downtown record store don't make much sense anymore.

My dream was the Rock Hall buying the space and operating a store there.

That's actually a good idea.  Even though the Rock Hall would more than likely not consider this type of venture, the prospect of creating a record store with the backing of the Rock Hall would provide a nice niche.  Plus, it could've bridged the Rock Hall to other parts of downtown (which could've spurred other Rock & Roll store concepts to pop up).

It's been a long time since I've been in the hall, but don't they have a large record store in there?  Doubtful they'd want to cannibalize that business.

It could probably create new revenue, because I don't think any local is going to the Hall to shop.

I'm mainly thinking about the history of that storefront though, it could be a store with a small exhibit in it.

Those record stores are in low rent buildings. unless the Rock Hall bought the property and leased it at low rent for goodwill for a record store, there is no way the renters would be able to afford that overhead.

Found out today from someone living in the building, that the former Fitworks in 668 is becoming a gym for residents only.

Yes, the Rock Hall has a store.  If you think about it, how likely are you to travel to the Rock Hall to visit the store if you are near Progressive Field?

Wow, that's a HUGE space to fill w/just residents. I could see them sectioning off the basement to put in a studio of some sort, but that's pretty wild.

Definitely. Makes me wonder if the info is accurate.

considering the last few iterations of gyms in that space has failed multiple times, it isn't surprising that they're trying something new

I suspect this will have its own thread soon.

The redevelopment project will include a boutique hotel, apartments and what the buyers described as “a unique ground-floor retail experience.”

This and the former Church of Christ hqs development should put a lot more feet on Prospect Avenue.  Good to see it happen so soon after MM decided to sell.

Also being discussed here.

Amazing news!  I'd sure they will be going for a T-MUD.

Seems like it would be a good Target location.

I'm surprised Crains beat Ken to this scope, that usually does not happen.

Sorry guys.   I was looking for the "Rose Building" and didn't spot the other thread.

Mods -- can you please merge the posts above into the other thread as needed?

700 Prospect finally got their state historic credit approval!

Nice.  Now that Euclid Ave has been revitalized, let's see the same happen on Prospect.

My own meager contribution

Dan Gilbert and Dave Blitzer, representing two of Cleveland's pro teams, have invested $250 million in Cosm, a sports-themed video "experience" company that is building huge entertainment centers around the country.  I'm guessing this means there will be one built in Cleveland somewhere in the Gateway district.

CORRECTION: Gilbert and Blitzer, along with three others, invested $250 million. I still like Cleveland's chances of getting a Cosm.

Cosm Dallas, as an example

That would be incredible for the Gateway District.  Fingers crossed!

Didn't one of the early versions of the Nucleus plans have something similar to this?

Have this as the main tenant on the ground for a Nucleus site tower pleaseeeeee.

That seems to make the most sense.  Both the Dallas and the Los Angeles Cosms could handle being taller; I cannot find a design for the Atlanta location.  To be the hinted-at Cleveland skyline-changer, I guess a 50-story hotel might do it.  🙂

Remember: It's the Year of the Snake

If l had to l'd settle for a 49 story hotel. I never want to get too greedy. Manage those expectations people.

Is there any chance Bedrock just builds a similar plan on the Nucleus site once this project in Detroit is complete? Including the rumored skyline changing fancy hotel? The Detroit project includes Detroit's first 5 star hotel.

I was in Detroit recently, and this project looks amazing at street level. It would fit in perfectly across from the RoMoFiHo glass wall.

I didn't take any pictures, but here is a link to the Google street view from late last year.

Note how Gucci opened a downtown store directly nextdoor - maybe a similar project at the Nucleus site would attract major retail brands too

Edited by sonisharri

Nice photos, and it does look great!   I remember when Gucci was at Tower City back in the day (not that I ever shopped there).   But I'll just go ahead and say it:  We have a way better skyline.

Detroit’s new tower is top shelf

imagine something even close to that in scale and design at the Nucleus site - wow!!
I haven’t given up dreaming about that!

I can’t remember…has someone posted on here a rendering of what the skyline would look like with nucleus and the new SW HQ?

Standalone Gucci stores are opening in every Midwest City except Cleveland it seems 😭😂

Gosh, I think did a long time ago... unfortunately that would require scrolling back through the nuCLEus thread 🥲

I think @dave2017did the colorful nighttime view with Nucleus - and then there was the rumored Bedrock  Gateway megaproject - that one was probably by @Geowizical. I was never a big fan of the Nucleus design for CLE, but with SW added and providing more balance, Nucleus looks pretty friggin cool.

Either way, a new tower on the Nucleus site, (combined with SW’s new tower) really takes our skyline to the next level.
