These dispensaries aren't like bars where people go in, get drunk, and then stumble back out onto the street and drive. There is no using or consuming in these stores. They're not places people can loiter and buy cheap drugs or alcohol like liquor stores. People go through multiple layers of security to even see the product, then buy products that aren't cheap, then take them home. You wouldn't even know most what most of these businesses are if someone doesn't point it out to you. If anything, it may get a few more downtown residents walking around this area. And most of these purchases would be taking place whether they were legally facilitated or not. This way, at least there's major tax revenue coming in (Ohio marijuana sales have hit $100M in two months) But to keep things mildly on topic, dispensaries look a lot nicer to visitors than drug dealers hanging out around downtown.
October 16, 2024Oct 16 Went with my brother to the new Landing Dispensary down on W. 3rd a couple weeks ago. Looks really nice from the outside and equally as nice inside. No loiterers, drug addicts or anything of the sort. And this was shortly before they closed at around 8PM. The only smallest resemblance of a vagrant around was my drunk ass. And we didn't even get to see the actual product in person, just photos and descriptions from a woman with a computer. Had to present ID, get buzzed in and out, etc. Very clean, professional and monitored. I guess some people will just always have their stigmas about certain things.

I guess some people will just always have their stigmas about certain things. interesting. this sounds pretty much the same as in nyc. except they have examples of the actual products in glass cases and a bouncer at the door checking IDs. is it ohio product only? there isnt a lot of variety out here as the rule is it must all be nys products, but more variety is coming along gradually as the industry err, umm, grows. btw they cracked down on all the blatant wild west weed shops — not too many left. but of course the taxed state weed is more expensive, so the same old underground flower market isnt going anywhere.

Apparently, that's just being announced. But do we know why the Lizard closed? Both of its downtown locations were always packed. They moved out of the Galleria to, in my mind, a less convenient space nearby, and closed the one in Gateway. But it can't be that they weren't getting enough traffic, or at least that seems unlikely to me.

If I had to guess I'd say it's a lessee's market in downtown Cleveland, especially for a well-known brand who's patrons will seek them out. The Lizard is probably trying to optimize profits and gets a better deal out of a new landlord. One would think they probably asked their existing landlord to match the deal and it was declined?

Also, they left Galleria due to shocker, the horrible landlord of Erieview and Galleria.

The resto near Gateway was also a massive space, even after the BoA ATM cut down on it. I'd imagine consolidating into their new space also has something to do with prioritizing lunch crowds - they're also a literal hair closer to the hotels, if that makes any difference.

November 13, 2024Nov 13 Probably belongs in streetscapes thread, but they've blocked the sidewalk without any pedestrian alternatives (and I'd assume it's a long term thing). It's a shame more developers aren't privy to the newish legislation about maintaining pedestrian access, then again it's like a one time $100 fine.

December 4, 2024Dec 4 AS far as Crain's is concerned I pay 5.00/ per week for an online subscription and a paper subscription. For me it was an Absolute need as it is extremely informative.
