^Green sees itself like so many suburbs around Akron-Canton still do, as a self-contained entity disassociated from the larger region for which it owes its existence. They'll keep building more sprawl because they can, regardless as to the long term maintenance challenges it will create and the excessive drain on area resources. What's so bad is that they have no discernible downtown nor a desire to build one that doesn't rely on automobiles. Even Stow, Akron's most nondescript suburb has at least acknowledged that it could benefit from more planning, including a walkable central business district, and less sprawl.

Revised development project proposed for Massillon Road

June 12, 2025

By Eric Poston

GREEN — A new development project is being proposed on Massillon Road just south of Burgess Drive, which could bring additional restaurants and a new plaza or additional housing to the city.
Developer and Green Dairy Queen (DQ) owner Karl Warther, is proposing to amend the conceptual site plan of the existing Planned Development District, known as The Boulevard subdivision. The 23.42-acre district is located on the southeast corner of Massillon Road and Burgess Drive. Original plans reviewed by the Green Planning and Zoning Commission in 2011 included a mixed-use development of retail, office, restaurant space and townhomes. That project did not move forward and revised plans in 2014 replaced the townhomes with market-rate apartments and a senior living facility.
