Hipsters visit the Noah's Ark Encounter:

I'm seeing about 10x more people running with the bulls in this footage than were there when I was there 15 years ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9paZVyKcM4Q

Looks like a bunch of millennials valuing "experiences" over material objects.

^^TimTracker and his wife are more "weird Disney Nerds" than hipsters, but I assume there's some overlap in those subcultures.

“To an Ohio resident - wherever he lives - some other part of his state seems unreal.”

as evidence that today's "hipsters" are totally unoriginal, watch (or skip through) this performance by late singer Anita O'Day at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1958 and look closely at the audience. Where do you think the fedoras and "retro" eyewear (here before it was retro!) came from? These are your grandparents (great-grandparents?? I know what you're thinking, I was barely a toddler at this point--lol)

Nobody is original. Everything is recycled from a previous era.

What has been will be again,  what has been done will be done again;  there is nothing new under the sun.

When did America’s heart turn cold on buffet chains?

“You know, millennials are kind of blamed for everything these days,” Allen says, but buffets really were hurt by my generation’s interest in putting healthy food in our bodies and spending our money in cooler places. “People buy brands that reflect how they see themselves,” Allen adds. “The cool vibe of a food hall” is hard to pass up, even if nobody there will give you a list of their vaccinations.

Many other reasons also blamed such as buffets aren't very Instagrammable, but I featured the last paragraph. Like everything still has to be pulled into the direction of "Buffets have old people, hillbillies, 10-year-olds and fullsize SUVs at them. They also don't use hipster fonts or have IPAs on tap."

Notorious B.I.G.’s ‘one-room shack’ now costs $4K a month

By Jennifer Gould Keil and Chris Perez

June 20, 2019 | 12:10am | Updated

“It was all a dream” is right.

The “one-room shack” in Brooklyn that Notorious B.I.G. rapped about living in as a child is up for rent — with its owner charging a smooth $4,000 a month to reside there.

The residence has been renovated and is now listed as a gentrified three-bedroom home.

Gone are the days of “no heat,” as Biggie says in his legendary hit track “Juicy,” which also contains the “one-room shack” reference.

“It’s a beautiful home and a fantastic neighborhood, filled with little shops and great transportation,” said Compass broker Fabienne Lecole. “The apartment is iconic … a historical gem.”

When Biggie lived at the residence — located on the third floor of 226 St. James Place — it was considered to be in a drug-plagued section of Clinton Hill. Fast forward to 2019, and everything’s been transformed.

I actually saw a fixie bike with matching colored tires last week, locked up to a fence.  Such a 2009 throwback!

I'm too old to have a picture in mind of that decade, Just now getting a picture in my head of what I thought the 90's were. Since the 80's, decades seem to blend together. I'm becoming like a vampire.

Man that had to be like seeing an '86 pink GT Performer freestyle bike with white mags sitting out in like 1999 when every other bike was all black and the riders looked like Sluggo

Why am I laughing. I'm lost in time.

Small world, I have been to that brewery. It's a little place in Taipei:

https://www.google.com/maps/@25.0215536,121.5318973,3a,75y,206.48h,85.72t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sGYNiDPO7QgaSXcRggI1dAg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

It's run by a bunch of white guys because hardly anyone in Taiwan drinks. Bars are few and far between, and when you do find one it's filled with Australians. There are some club type places the locals go, but they are bizarrely interrupted by the cops who turn the lights on, turn off the music, and go around and check everyone's ID once a night. It's really strange.

^ interesting! i am thinking of the tons of taiwanese joints around here and come to think of it they don't really specialize in alcohol. they always seem, to me anyway, when i notice them, to be little cafes with a very goofy mix of teen oriented foods, like waffles and bubble teas, but that can be nice sometimes and they do always have a few tasty things.

It's a shame that websites like this are gone.  In Cincinnati, a Facebook group called "Cincinnati DIY" is sort-of the one-stop location for this sort of thing.  Unfortunately, it's a lot different than old static websites since people are able to post their own crap and get into big silly arguments.

‘Thank God I Voted Absentee In Whatever Dumb Ohio Town I’m From,’ Say Brooklyn Residents

...echoing the sentiment of thousands of fellow Brooklynites who were either from Grafton or Granville or maybe Gallipolis in noting their vote would matter so much more when it was counted alongside the hayseeds and townies they grew up with.

NYC before hipsters...a bunch of guys who had big personalities because they actually had to work/serve in the military versus the post-2000s takeover by trust funders:

  • 2 weeks later...

^ there was no before, there were always hipsters in nyc. the term hipster itself may even have been invented there from the jazz days.

only the neighborhood nexus changes. in those days and for the longest it was greenwich village. many of the hanger on poseurs of those days lived on trust funds and parent support too just the same.

Really, is there anything more hipsterish than screening a skateboard video in a 1940 dive bar while two loud bands perform? If anyone wants to experience this (and who wouldn't?) then head over to Nemeth's Lounge in Painesville on Saturday night.😱

A song called "Breakup Behind Arby's" just popped up in a co-worker's playlist. Is this a thing? Remind me to avoid fast food with partners.

its really funny you bring that up because my spouse was supposed to be in dayton today — flight cancelled due to weather — but her sister made it in from seattle and all the olden relatives are going to arbys for lunch today. 😂

i know, right?

that's where we are these days.

i will bet you dollars to donuts there is a big ad for a chopped cheese sandwich in there.  😆

^^^ Granted, I’ve not been to Brooklyn for about 20 years and I’m sure large parts of it are unrecognizable to me now. That said, are you sure Park Slope is ‘very unhipster’? That guy’s Nantucket red shorts, sandals, tattoo, rucksack and scooter would seem to suggest otherwise!!

My hovercraft is full of eels

^ thats pretty normcore upper middle class yuppie these days, as is the one child.

and anything related to the cape is and always was about as un-hipster as it gets!
