SpectraSite Tower Youngstown (41°3′24″N, 80°38′43″W) high guy-wired aerial mast for the transmission of FM radio and television programs in Youngstown, Ohio, USA. SpectraSite Tower Youngstown was built in 1976.  It is 1329 ft tall.

Would this make it the tallest structure in Ohio?  Is there anything taller?  I think we should put together a "Top 50 Structures" in Ohio list.

I believe the ones in Jefferson Township are either that height or taller.

Anyone have a photo?

^ Oh i  just checked that out. I might have to goto Louisville soon, they seem have a 1700+ footer. I hadn't noticed it before though.

searching through the FAA database I came across a tower in youngstown that is 439.3, but i guess it depends on how you qualify because there is an antenna height above average terrain and antenna height above ground level.

here is the link to the tv database - just choose ohio and it will return the whole list:

I remember WCOM. Of course, living in Morrow County made it easier to pick up their signal than if we lived in Columbus.  I remember some news coverage about pilots being concerned about the tower still standing after the station went off the air.  People were concerned about the pilots still working if there was no impetuous for maintenance of the tower.

439.3m is the tallest structure in the state (as far as I know) and it's in Youngstown.

Which is what, 1449 feet?

Now why would WNWO NBC24 Toledo's transmission tower be located near the West Virginia border?

Actually the tower is in Jerusalem Township, Ohio........just east of the Toledo suburb of Oregon, Ohio.

LOL, there are two locations in Ohio named Jerusalem?  Grrr I hate townships...  I just googled Jerusalem, Ohio and posted the stats.  My bad...

funny, i wonder why is this getting so difficult? here's the youngstown antenna conversion:

439.3 meter = 1 441.272 965 879 feet

So what are the next three tallest structures in Ohio?  Where would Key Tower rank?

1. SpectraSite Tower @ 1,441 feet in Youngstown, Ohio

2. WNWO Television Tower @ 1437 feet in Jerusalem Township, Ohio

3. ?

4. ?

5. ?

I made out a list of everything (antenna-wise) above 900 feet according to the FCC.  For all I know it could be including antennas on top of skyscrapers, though.  And Key Tower would fall somewhere in here, of course.

When I saw WRGT on the list I was going to make a comment about the reception sucking, but you beat me too it.

However, I have it on right now and it is by far clearer than any other Dayton station.

PigBoy, thanks for the list.  So is SpectraSite Communications Tower 1433 feet or 1441 feet?

^ i got a tape measure, hold on a sec i'll be right back.....

I don't want to go back to that site and search again (getting that bastard into Excel where I could sort it made me angry), but I kind of recall seeing that 1433 is the actual height and 1441 is the height above the average local terrain.  I guess it sits high atop the summit of an eight-foot hill...

No doubt.  I can get all of the Dayton stations and even WAVE out of Louisville, but I can't get 45?  Oh...no 26 either.

Yeah hills don't count toward structure height so Malrite Communications Tower in Jerusalem Township @ 1437 ft is the tallest structure in Ohio

Not a big deal......... :)

The WKBN Tower as it is known in Youngstown can be seen from all over the county and into Trumbull County. Its always flashing at night with its red lights. It is taller than the WTC Towers as it is obvious and in the 80s two men were arrested for jumping off it.

It also transmits Youngstown 570WKBN Radio which can be heard nearly everywhere in the state on most nights.

I did know of the Toledo Tower but I beleive there is one in Dayton or Cincinnati near that height.

The OFFICIAL Height I found out from WKBN Is: 1442.7 feet; I have no clue how they got that but that is what I got from them, makes no difference to me. I see it all the time.
