Hi everyone, My friend just accepted a job at Walsh University and will be moving to Canton with her husband from Arizona. She's already been to Canton once to attempt to find a house/ apartment to rent and hasn't really had any luck. They would like to stick to a max of about 1000 a month and would prefer renting a house although an apartment is ok. A top priority is safety and a decent commute. Does anyone have thoughts on what might be a good area to look or have any experience on this matter? I live in columbus so I'm not that familiar with the neighborhoods of canton.Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My favorite area of Canton are the neighborhoods along Market Street, between US62 and where SR43 splits off from Market on the near-north side of downtown. This was Canton's wealthiest area 50-100 years ago, and has many fine homes that are affordable today. I know nothing of the area's safety or the condition of the housing, other than what I've seen while traveling down Market Street. But I just like the area's density, many trees, and an apparent upkeep based on the condition of people's yards, house facades, etc. This neighborhood is near Malone University and about 3-4 miles from Walsh University, just a straight shot up Market by car, bus (http://www.sartaonline.com/Content/uploads/JAN-2012-Route-108-Schedule-1756.pdf) or bike (flat, safe route although the US62 interchange presents the only difficulty). There is a full-service Fisher's grocery store on SR43 at 14th street, and is close to the Canton Civic Center for local sports and shows (http://www.cantonciviccenter.com/), the Players Guild Theater (http://www.playersguildtheatre.com/), Canton Symphony (http://www.cantonsymphony.org/) and the Art Museum (http://www.cantonart.org/). The are all in the same complex, the Cultural Center for the Arts at 1001 Market Street.

Thanks for the response! They are currently looking in that area right as I  speak so hopefully they find something that fits their budget.
