Posted July 16, 201212 yr Was in town last week to get an apartment for this fall, and I was successful on that and the mission to nab a few pics. I must warn you guys, these are phone pics, and while a few of these shots are pretty good, no doubt I can do better later and with a better camera. Starting with some really bad Edgewater Park photos: West End of Lakewood The Melt! Murray Hill (Little Italy) An Irish flag in Little Italy? Presti's was recommended by several on the street, and it lived up to its rep, at least for lunch Midtown Downtown Did not like these apts for some reason Brutalism! July 17, 201212 yr Thanks. Those first dozen pics or so -- I have no idea where those are.... :-P Love these two..... http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/376173_10151257946467656_12526572_n.jpg http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/523901_10151257946062656_348945050_n.jpg I am surprised how few people were out and about in many of those scenes. I seriously think everyone's on vacation. "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 17, 201212 yr ^Well it is summer, so the CSU area is going to be mostly empty. And great tour. Thanks for sharing!

I seriously think everyone's on vacation. Those are both from the CSU Student Center, which anyone can wander around inside of. I'd recommend grabbing lunch there some day since you work downtown, because the campus vibe is pretty cool, great compliment to downtown. Wait till Aug 26th, of course. ;) My style of taking photos is usually to keep a thin camera in my backpack and take it out whenever I come across a great scene. These pics were admittedly forced, and as much as I'd sometimes wait a minute to try and get more interesting activity adorning a street, I'll admit it probably wasn't the best day to force a photo tour. That said, I thought Cleveland did a great job of looking very photogenic.

July 17, 201212 yr Again I'm reminded of how cool Euclid Ave looks. To me it just seems dramatic, like even the 60's buildings find a way to fit in and add to the streetscape. And to think of how much potential still lies ahead. Great pics Euro!!
July 17, 201212 yr Thanks all. And in case anyone is curious what comments these pics got elsewhere, here's the same thread on the OKC board: http://www.okctalk.com/showthread.php?t=31033
July 17, 201212 yr ^Interesting, thanks for sharing that link. So forgive me if you posted elsewhere, but did you end up choosing Lakewood for your[first] Cleveland address?
July 17, 201212 yr Corrections: Little Italy is in Cleveland -- Cleveland Heights doesn't start until you get to the top of the hill. Michael Symon is a native Clevelander, though he may have moved to NYC for a while. And, Lakewood is far from wealthy, although the NW parts of it are. FYI: The wealthiest parts of the metro area are on the east side (Pepper Pike, Hunting Valley, Waite Hill) while the old-money suburbs (Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights and Brahtenal) are also on the east side. Nice photos and nice feedback. I don't know if Cleveland is thriving or not. But it has come out of the recession stronger than many cities in terms of new job creation, and in terms of the dollar value of downtown construction projects. EDIT: scratch the above "job creation" presumption on my part. This data says otherwise: http://www.brookings.edu/research/interactives/july-metromonitor#overall "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
July 21, 201212 yr My bad--days ago, when you first posted these pictures, I marveled at the varied and detailed look at this handsome city that you provided with your cell phone--but I was distracted and forgot to thank you for them. (Once again, this morning, I'm enjoying them all again.) Maybe it's your phone, maybe it's your photography, or maybe it's just Cleveland itself, but it all looks good. Like other forum members, I'm waiting for your next Cleveland photo-shoot.
