In contrast to the poll for where "home" is, perhaps we can get a headcount of which cities people here represent, which I is often more than just their hometowns.  In addition to the major cities, I've included what I think are the main separate towns in Ohio, but please pipe up if I've forgotten something or if I shouldn't have included something.  (I'm wondering about Lorain-Elyria... they seem somewhat separate from the rest of the Cleveland area, but I don't know the places, so I'm not sure.)

Detroit, New York, and Chicago are given their own options because they are large cities that seem to be likely places for people here to represent, especially because I'm certain of a few.  Besides that there's always the "other" option.

The options are modelled somewhat after the "Where is Home" poll but are more specific to the actual cities.  My intent is to get at the cities rather than broad regions, although the big cities should probably be interpreted as the overall urban area.

Anyway, with all those disclaimers out of the way, please vote for all that apply.

My votes are:

-Dayton

-Other Ohio towns (Delaware)

-Other non-Ohio cities or towns (Madison, Wisconsin)

This list can never be created.

Hamilton! (you might imagine)

Middletown (although its more opinion than info, which I let PR post)

Other Ohio Towns (Franklin, Oxford)

Even though I follow them both, I didn't claim Cincinnati or Dayton. We have adequate representation by those cities.

I really hope we get someone on here that loves Springfield soon!

I love Cincinnati

And the thriving city of Flint, MI

I represent:

Norwalk (hometown)

Milan (I'm there a lot)

Monroeville (I'm there a lot)

Sandusky (I lived there for some years)

DeKalb/Chicagoland, Illinois (I'm attending school here)

Cincinnati - I'm too long away from living in Cleveland/Euclid/Wickliffe/Eastlake - eleven years now - and am back in Hinckley/Medina too infrequently to help...

And I, too, absolutely love Cincinnati!

Definitely Cincinnati.  I've lived in this area my entire life.

I represent Lakewood (where I live), Cleveland (what I advocate) and Berea/Bainbridge/Kent/Highland Heights (where my memories take me back to places I've lived). But I also have soft spots for Youngstown (I have family there and memories of what it was like before the bottom fell out), Toronto (what I want Cleveland to be), and the hilly rural areas southeast of Canton and southeast of Erie Pa (where I often take drives to clear my mind).

I know, too complicated....

Fort Wayne, Indiana

Obviously Ithaca, NY, and most times DC/Baltimore.

Columbus and New Albany!!!

I represent Delaware, Baton Rouge, and Philadelphia

Zanesville, Athens, and the rest of southeast / east central Ohio.

Fort Wayne, Indiana

I guess I need to amend that; I got my start here with photos of Cleveland, and I've been visiting there every so often for more than 25 years. The character of the city resonated with me the first time I experienced it, and it's still one of my special places.

I like Chicago a bunch, too, and I have photos going back about the same amount of time, that I haven't yet had time to scan and post.

detroit; cleveland; mansfield; and warren should have its own option, but its not really a big deal...

^ I'll add Warren just for you. :-)

Although you could probably have added it yourself, being a god-like moderator and all.

Edit:

Actually, if there are some moderator super powers that can make it so the added option isn't at the end of the list, that'd be great.

Argh, and I think when I did that it took away the ability to change one's vote.  So any help there would be appreciated, too.

Maybe I shouldn't have messed with it.  Damn you, pope! :-D

yeah, i figured i could have done it, but then figured i'd be the only warren voter. Then everyone who voted "other city" would whine and cry.

also i know its early, but detroit is beating dayton and cbus combined, ha!

CINCINNATI - It is the only reason why I moved to Ohio.  After 2.5 years living here, the love hasn't faded.

Well, considering I almost exclusively post pix on Dayton and vicinity it would be Dayton.

My current locale and hometown of Akron.

My future home of Cleveland (in about a year if all goes as planned).

My permanent residence is Cleveland, but also have a home in NYC, since work splits me between both cities

My hometown is Detroit and I have spent virtually my entire life there.  I moved to Erie, PA for 2 years after that and I have resided in the Cleveland area since June :)

Galion  - home off and on since age 4

Mansfield  - first movie, first mall, first kiss, still there at least once a week

Springfield - there once a week or more

Mount Vernon - probably my favorite haunt outside of the above

Pittsburgh

Springfield - there once a week or more

Do they ever offer tours of their historic districts?

No, but ColDayMan does.

^I meant tours to go inside the houses like Rossville, Dayton Lane, and the German Village do in Hamilton.

By what you've said, I get the impression there are several areas (behind Springfield South, South Fountain, that area west of town that I actually found, and past Wittenburg), but they only have two recognized districts, is one like Highland Park, old, but not old enough? I hope to do all the residential areas on Spring Break so I can move my interests to another city.

Take a wild guess.

  • 1 year later...

The 5-1-3!!!!
