Posted August 11, 201212 yr i went to the ironbound this afternoon -- newark,nj ironbound neighborhood http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ironbound *** thats it there ain’t no more -- hope you enjoyed! ***
August 11, 201212 yr Well done. It seems like the historic commercial corridors of New Jersey all have distinctive wood frame architectural styles you don't see elsewhere in the NY metro.
August 12, 201212 yr Ironbound is one of my favorite neighborhoods in the country, period. There is a restaurant I went to in May called Iberia and it had one of THE best lunch specials I've ever had (rodízio for like $9). August 13, 201212 yr ^ yep thats the big castle one: http://iberiarestaurants.com/home_IP/homepg.htm i usually go shop at seabras grocery, a gigantic brazilian grocery store (seabras corp owns like half of brazil or seems like it) and then eat at this joint: http://www.brasiliagrill.net/about.php so many choices in this neighborhood!
August 13, 201212 yr So if I where to go to Newark from NYC by train it looks like this place is very close to the station? I have to say I am impressed. All those active storefronts. My freind in Hartford suggested I check out Newark with him on my next visit east....hmm.....
August 13, 201212 yr ^ yep go for it - the ironbound is very easy to visit! ferry street is literally right next to the newark penn station path train terminus. oh another thing i like about the housing in particular is even tho its all covered with aluminum siding, the bottom half of many of the homes are tile work, so its unique and makes it visually interesting when you walk around the side streets.
