Posted August 17, 201212 yr I'm moving from Toledo to Cleveland, already have a job in Lyndhurst. But I am having a hell of a time finding an apartment or house that takes dogs, specifically a Great Dane. I'm looking for something that is less than a half hour commute to work and under $700 a month and I'm just not finding much. Any help anyone can offer on places that might work out for me?
August 17, 201212 yr Welcome to Greater Cleveland, stock1986. I grew up across the street from Lyndhurst but remain familiar with the area. I can tell you $700 isn't much for an apartment, especially one with a yard where your Great Dane can stretch his legs. I think your best bet is a house, and if you're willing to come up a little bit on your rent expectations and get the owner to come down on theirs, then here's some suggestions worth checking into. Perhaps you can find a home where they're asking for less than $700 and if they balk at allowing a large dog, offer to pay $700 or a little more. I emphasized some potentially decent places that might allow a large dog by marking it with an asterisk.... http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/r1050052/ http://www.rentals.com/Apartments/Ohio/Cleveland/r1380459/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Euclid/r1363322/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/r1386704/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/r1385813/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3107667241/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Wickliffe/OODLERENT3012326266/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3117553857/ * http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT2814784014/ * http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3056350464/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3130777844/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3012325873/ * http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Bedford-Heights/OODLERENT3092632917/ * http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3035360900/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3126397842/ * http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3120466231/ http://www.rentals.com/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3108584196/ http://www.rentals.com/Apartments/Ohio/Cleveland/OODLERENT3065632330/ "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck
August 17, 201212 yr Not sure if this is in KJP's big list, but Lake West on Lake Ave. in CLE welcomes dogs, they have a big sign saying so. I know it looks haunted, but I can assure you, only the elevator is haunted. Nice neighborhood too. A block to Edgewater Park, walkable, and convenient highway access.

That was not on my list. I listed only east-side locations. See also if you can find some small, pre-1970 homes in Chesterland to rent. Just about everything built in Chesterland since then is of the McMansion variety and expensive. The hill in Gates Mills drives me nuts on snowy roads. I would have to imagine there are some homes in Mayfield Heights or Cleveland Heights for around that price point.
August 20, 201212 yr Maybe you can find someone looking for a roommate? 700 is not very much to get a place by yourself IMO.
August 20, 201212 yr I would google "houses for rent Cleveland Heights" might have to filter through some non sense, but should provide links to some of the local independent Real Estate Management companies that have whole houses to rent.
August 23, 201212 yr You won't find a house in CH in that price range. Maybe a duplex, but nothing all that fitting for a Great Dane. When I first moved back to Cle and had a large dog, I rented a house in Mayfield Heights for about $850 I believe. It was nothing more than a 'monopoly house' with one floor and no bigger than your average sized apartment. But it did have its own fenced in yard, which was the selling point for me. I wanted something bigger and something closer to downtown, but all of those rentals were more in the $1200-$1500 range
