Posted August 30, 201212 yr My family is from Chatham, MI in the Upper Peninsula. Every year we visit in August for the Homecoming Parade and the Alger County Fair (also to drink Hamm's Special). Here is a collection of photos I took of the lovely Alger County region of which Chatham is included. Population: 220 These first photos are on Lake Superior at Au Train about 40 minutes away. Now we leave Au Train and enter Chatham. The building on the right is the "Village Pub" currently for sale for about $250,000 but I'm sure he would take much less if you were interested. The building on the left is the Pacific Hotel which is now a diner/coffee shop. My grandpa's clothes line. Mechanic The Co-Op is a grocery and hardware store. Only ones in at least 40 miles, I believe. I think every business needs to run two different businesses to stay profitable. These junk cars have been sitting behind the mechanic for decades. Behind the Co-Op Thank you, Barack Obama! Driving out to my family's camp on Lake Superior. Too dark and too many beers to get good pictures at camp, though. Best photo I could get without a tripod at camp. The lights in the distance are from Marquette. My cousin's dog, Yoshi, pretty much the whole time on the way back from camp. Start of the Alger County Fair and Parade! Pretty much everyone from the Upper Peninsula is Finnish and Swedish. Look up Sisu if you are interested. My parents' float: The only thing I got at the parade.... :| Old photos of Chatham back in the "heyday": The Pacific Much of old Chatham burned down in the 1920s or 30s. Obligatory photo of the Mackinac Bridge connecting the two peninsulas. Currently this is the 3rd largest suspension span in the United States.
