Posted September 3, 201212 yr Lincoln, the capital of Nebraska ok, the title of having all the tall buildings in your CBD look the same has been switched from Battle Creek to here hey cool, somebody got a new second tallest tower Omaha, the if Akron Ohio didn't have any bigger cities in the state this is what I would imagine it would start to look like in some ways or whatever of Nebraska
September 3, 201212 yr You and that Oakland! Ya know, Nebraska's capitol building has always been one of my favs. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
September 11, 201212 yr Hmm, I guess I like Omaha better out of the two, but both certainly live up to the "plain" part of the Great Plains.
September 11, 201212 yr I'm not a fan of Omaha. After reading about all its success, I was expecting a lot more. The downtown is mediocre for a city of its size/age, and the historic districts were lacking. I felt the same way about Des Moines (though Des Moines has a better downtown). It actually made me appreciate Toledo more, despite all the ghetto and abandonment. Omaha doesn't have as much ghetto/vacancy, but the housing in a lot of these no-man's land Midwestern and Great Plains states is not as nice as in urban cores of Ohio. Ohio has more potential. The big shocker for me was actually Davenport, Iowa! That's a nice city. And Lincoln, Nebraska is much better than Omaha IMO. I visited Lincoln's downtown on a Friday night, and was impressed by all the college activity. The scale of buildings seems too big for a city that size, and streets are too wide, but somehow it works. It's windy and feels like you're in the middle of nowhere, but Lincoln seems more livable than any of the other no-man's land cities. Lincoln really is at the edge of the world. Go west of there, and it's a long time before any signs of civilization.
