I've long been fascinated by photos of Mingo, partly because of my fascination with small industrial cities in general and Ohio River cities in particular. A lot of these cities -- Bellaire is another good example -- look like they're bigger than they really are, and certainly look like they were once much, much more vibrant than they are now. Mingo and environs also are intriguing because of the famous entertainers and, much more so, the famous athletes they've produced. Anyhow, it was a dreary day when I passed through with my camera a month ago. But even a sunny day could not have made this place look hopeful.

Great pics. I was through Mingo about a month ago as well...East Liverpool, Toronto, Wellsville, Steubenville, Bellaire...I love all those river towns. Of the group, though, Mingo is the most, well, infamous?

I loved your photography, UrbanSurfin, namely because I've been unable to explore such "bygone-era" river towns myself.  But after viewing this particular set of pictures, I really don't know how to react to such forlorn places.  For example, in not one of these photos is there one human being in sight.  Just a typical day in Mingo--or was the entire town overrun by zombies?  (hard to tell)

Fantastic!

^^ This was a little after noon on a gray Saturday. There were a lot a parked cars downtown, and two or three moving ones in the 15 minutes or so I was there. And I saw two or three people in doorways, but nobody walking around.

Awesome! This forum could use more of this town.
