Posted November 23, 201212 yr Bloomington ~70,000 Normal ~50,000 (has Illinois State university ~20,000) MSA ~130,000 Bloomington, Illinois: Has some nice structures. Historic square with a few north/south streets running up for a few blocks that are mostly filled in. They have free street parking, and I noticed that in the evening on a weekend, those streets were packed with cars(and people too.) Historic square with the old McLean county courthouse Home of State Farm Insurance. The tall one is their tower, the short one is something that was built in the 1980s to replace a historic block that burned down. Normal, IL: Downtown Amtrak station, right up against the historic district. Easy to recognize as an old railroad town. Also has a circle with a monument in the middle of the 'Uptown'. (Bloomington has the downtown, and is just south of Normal.)
November 24, 201212 yr Wow. More impressive than I thought. I've only driven through this. "You don't just walk into a bar and mix it up by calling a girl fat" - buildingcincinnati speaking about new forumers
November 25, 201212 yr When I used to take Amtrak from Milwaukee to visit my dad in Peoria I'd always transfer from train to bus in Normal. The city is wonderful. Uptown Normal is adorable and quite cosmopolitan for a city its size. Bloomington is a lot of fun too. The church on the right hand side of this image is gorgeous. It's a massive art deco space with teal and blue stained glass windows.
November 27, 201212 yr Great photos. I've only passed through Normal on the train to STL. I see those tall 1970s highrises try to peek through!
