Posted December 2, 201212 yr In October, I visited the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan again and took a tour of the Heritage Hill Historic District. Heritage Hill is the city's oldest residential district and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The architectural styles in the neighbourhood are diverse. One notable home in the neighbourhood is the Meyer May House, built by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1908, in his traditional Prairie-Style. Here we go with the tour… Houses on Paris Avenue… View from the roof of my cousin's house... Houses on Morris Avenue... The Meyer May House, built in 1908, one of Frank Lloyd Wright's trademark Prairie School Style houses. Was the first-ever FLW home constructed in Michigan. It was built for Meyer May, a prominent Grand Rapids clothier, today it is a museum and offers tours. Homes on Madison Avenue... Cute outhouse... Looking towards downtown... Stratford townhomes, on Morris Avenue... The Stone Castle, was once a private residence, then a restaurant, and today is a business building, with a Dentist's Office. Voigt House, Victorian mansion completed in 1896. Washington Street Here at College Avenue and Logan Avenue, we encounter another Frank Lloyd Wright inspired house, the David Amberg House, built in 1910. It actually wasn't designed by Wright himself, but by his Chicago associates. Homes on College Avenue Hope you all enjoyed it! Thanks for viewing!
December 2, 201212 yr Heritage Hill is so damn beautiful. 6 years ago I was VERY close to living here for a summer.

December 3, 201212 yr Wow...looks like some nice restorations. This is Grand Rapids oldest neighborhood? Really? Mostly later 19th and early 20th century things. But really, the quality of these are great! Very nice! GR is another place I need to see.
December 4, 201212 yr Thanks, guys! My cousin is looking at buying a house here and renting it out... I very much look forward to when he does buy it. There's more to this neighborhood north of Fulton Street, including the beautiful Central High School which I unfortunately didn't get a picture of. BTW, I should mentioned while walking this neighborhood, we encountered some people visiting from Ohio and they, too, were amazed by this fine neighborhood. There aren't many neighborhoods that I can think of with this diverse architecture. Except for a neighborhood called Durand in Hamilton, Ontario. I will have to take pictures of that sometime. :D
