December 7, 201212 yr Also.... check out YOOX.COM out of NYC great fashion at great prices. be careful of the sale items though. Once bought, they cannot be returned in many cases.
December 7, 201212 yr I was contemplating sending this as a PM to metrocity, but if may be helpful to you too, surf What is cool for dress shoes and casual shoes now? I have always just bought Kenneth Cole NY or Reaction shoes (actually Kenneth Cole and J Crew are kind of like Granamals for me) I just picked up a pair of top siders for casual shoes. WAIT!! You're offering advice? Oh lawd. Don't you remember this? OK, I am a 34 year gay old man who does not know how to dress himself :'( Typically, I wear a solid color polo, or a T-Shirt from one of the many bars I worked at, or a solid color wool sweater, black belt, Gap jeans or JCrew/Gap chinos and black Doc Martins. And I am happy. But, I am going to LA with my business partner to check out concepts, and I know him and we will probably do a bunch of stuff with extreamly weathly beautiful people in hot cool clubs. While some poeple would love this, I think it is one of the rings of hell. Anywho, I need to dress so that I can hang and not be noticed. What I am asking you very generous people, is for very specific instruction. What store, what article of clothing, what color, etc. I really would appreciate any advice you could give. I am willing to spend some cash, since I really have not bought any clothes in the past 4 years. So, it is LA this weekend, and NY in a few weeks. HELP! (I will buy you a beer and be eternally grateful) Hunty, the gay mafia was going to "take you for ride"! You do realize MayDay was your only character witness, when your gay card was going to be revoked? Surfohio.....RUN!!!
December 10, 201212 yr I get most of my stuff online these days (and I prefer UK styles/cuts), so here are a few of my favorites: ASOS: British site, but stuff seems to ship from Elizabeth NJ when ordered in the US: http://www.asos.com/?hrd=1 Great sales on dress and casual shoes (skip them for athletic...high UK prices even on sale). Look at shoe brands: Jeffrey West, Base London, Ted Baker, Ben Sherman To Boot NYC: Nordstroms carries these shoes: http://www.toboot.com/ TM Lewin: Good dress shirts, Great prices/sales. Note The "Fully Fitted" is the slimmest, even more so than "Slim Fit". If you don't see prices in USD....go all the way to the bottom of the page and click on "Change Region" http://www.tmlewin.co.uk/on/demandware.store/Sites-tmlusd-Site?geoip=geoip Charles Tyrwhitt: Good shirts/suits. Good inspiration for shoes that are business appropriate but are not too "chunky", "pointy"...etc http://www.ctshirts.co.uk/Default.aspx?q=||||||||||||||| Bookster: Excellent quality custom made classic British suits http://www.tweed-jacket.com/ Peter Werth: Good ideas/Inspiration http://www.peterwerth.co.uk/index.php Jack Threads: Good sales on up to date casual http://www.jackthreads.com/offerings DENIM: These are my long standing favorite go to brands for simple good fitting denim Ralph Lauren Rugby Vintage slim dark wash: Note, you can't get "Rugby" at any department store RL shop. You have to go to the few "Rugby" stores they have or order them online. They are not tight through the thigh, but have a straight leg narrower bottom. Best under $100 ($98) pair of jeans you can find IMO. http://www.rugby.com/shop/item.aspx?productId=11161369&categoryId=3771602&cp=3138868 A.P.C. New Standard Jeans. Raw Denim, so they take some breaking in. Also, they should not be machine washed often...if at all. http://uscheckout.apc.fr/browse.cfm/4,1675.html?nav=denim
December 10, 201212 yr MTS, I usually wear to work Lee boot cut blue jeans with a vertical stripe polo from Kohl's. I like to button the collar all the way to the top and tuck the shirt in. I usually don't wear a belt, but if I do, I have a nice brown braided belt that I bought from JCPenney a while back. I'll usually wear short white athletic socks and my brown Skechers. Do you think I am dressed well enough or do you have any advice for me? OK...I see. You go to your closet and you select those Lee jeans for instance, because you're trying to tell the world that you take your self too serious to care what you put on your back. MayDay, this isn't just a cry for help......This is a science project. Maybe even a thesis! My advice to you. Burn all your clothes - hell just burn the closet! Should I buy more clothes from Kohl's after I burn my closet down? Should I get baggy pants? What do you think of my popped collar?
December 10, 201212 yr Correction: Only been to TopShopTopMan to buy a hat. Not really my store lol Topman is a cheap store in the UK (priced more like H&M), and the quality shows it. In the US the prices are too high IMO...priced more like (or even higher than) Zara or Express with lower quality merchandise. A $700 Topman suit! They must be joking. MTS is right though, it is good for inspiration and trend spotting.

December 23, 201212 yr I have a few interviews coming up (one in the Cleve) and I picked up a pair of To Boots and a J. Crew Ludlow suit. Thanks y'all
December 23, 201212 yr You guys are still talking clothing. Really? Hell, I'll wear the same stinky socks, sweatpants and sweatshirt for two days or more just so I can postpone having to do laundry that's been piling up in my closet for a month. And if something doesn't smell too bad, I'll wear it again. So, do you think it's too late for me to learn anything about men's fashions? ;) "In the souls of the people the grapes of wrath are filling and growing heavy, growing heavy for the vintage." -- John Steinbeck

December 24, 201212 yr I have a few interviews coming up (one in the Cleve) and I picked up a pair of To Boots and a J. Crew Ludlow suit. Nice work. I love my Ludlow suit. Though since I got it I feel like an old man when I need to wear one of my older (and theoretically "nicer") suits. If you don't have any, you might also think about getting a couple relatively narrow (3" or less) ties to go with the suit's narrow lapels. More importantly, great to hear you've got an interview in Cleveland!
January 23, 201312 yr My business suit shopping has been delayed. However, I did have enough funds to buy all new casual clothes, and spent about 200.00 at Kohls and Target. Have had several compliments on losing weight - I haven't, it's just that I'm finally wearing shirts and pants that fit correctly. I am looking at my former clothes and suddenly realizing how slobby they made me look in comparison. Thanks everyone for the enlightening discussion. MTS I'll be getting back to you pm with some more questions. Anyone else have any suggestions? Thanks
August 20, 201311 yr Well, you can scratch Rugby off the list, The stores have all been closed and the website redirects to Ralph Lauren site...which I never really liked. Even though they are both RL, the cut doesn't seem the same. I do like the Goodale Tailored Slim Selvedge Raw Denim available on Jack Threads...I have them in a few colors and the price is good. Other than that, my shopping habits have been curtailed due to temporary joblessness, so I don't have any other current tips :| Summer is almost over, I guess it's time to look for a job  But if I think of anything else...I'll let you know
